[Free browser demo] Perdida en el Tiempo — feedback on controls and difficulty

Hi everyone!

I started making a simple game for my children: jumping around and squashing bugs. It has gradually grown into Perdida en el Tiempo, a time-travelling adventure inspired by the classics I grew up playing. I am learning the technical side as I go, and I would love some fresh eyes on how it actually feels to play.

Play the free browser demo: https://cuenda.itch.io/perdida-en-el-tiempo
Language: Spanish.
Platforms: desktop and mobile browsers, with keyboard, touch controls and connected gamepad support.

You play as Julia or Pablo, searching for their missing sister Alicia across different eras. It starts with platforming and later introduces top-down exploration, boss fights, a dinosaur chase and a minecart ride.

Even 10–15 minutes with the opening would be a big help. I am especially looking for feedback on:

  • Controls: do movement and jumping feel responsive? Are the controls clear on your device?
  • Difficulty: do falls and enemy hits feel fair, or are there places where you cannot react in time?
  • Opening and pacing: is the objective clear? Does the introduction hold your interest, or would you rather get into the game sooner?
  • Where you stopped: how far did you get, and what made you stop?

If you find a bug, please mention the area, your device/browser and whether you were using a keyboard, touchscreen or controller. A screenshot would also help.

Side-scrolling platform gameplay: Pablo in the prehistoric valley

This is still a work in progress and I am updating it regularly. Honest criticism is welcome — especially about anything confusing, frustrating or less fun than it should be. Thanks for giving it a try!

Hey there, fellow dev! 😁

Overall, I had a pretty good experience with your game. It's clear that you've put a lot of work into it!
I wanted to share a few things I really liked, along with some observations I made while playing. Hopefully, they'll be useful as you continue improving the game.

🎵 Music and sound

The music and sound effects fit really well throughout the game. I think you've done a great job creating the right atmosphere.

🎨 Graphics and platforms

Visually, the game looks really good too, although I noticed a few things that might be worth improving:

  • Right at the beginning, before even moving my character, I could figure out where the first platform was without much trouble. However, the second platform was almost impossible to distinguish until I started moving. Once you understand how it works, you know what to look for, but that initial experience can be a little confusing.
  • The boundaries of some platforms aren't always clearly defined. For example, on the very first screen, I noticed that my character could remain standing on a platform even though they appeared to be quite far beyond its visible edge. I only noticed this on one particular cobblestone-style platform.
  • Sometimes, the character appears to touch a star with part of their body (especially their head), but the star isn't collected unless you jump or perform another movement. Nothing serious, just a small detail I noticed.

⚙️ Performance

I managed to reach the section where you ride the pink dinosaur.
During my playthrough, I experienced some performance issues, particularly when moving through areas with hanging vines. Google Chrome would noticeably stutter in those sections.

I'm not sure whether this is specific to my browser or computer, but I thought I'd mention it in case it's worth investigating.

🛒 The shop

By the way, the shop is really well done! Haha. I hope the shopkeeper is based on you! 😂

🎮 Overall impressions

My overall impression is very positive.

Platformers aren't really my type of game these days. When I was a kid, I absolutely loved games like Super Mario, but my tastes have changed over the years.
That said, I think your game has a lot of charm and a clear sense of direction. From what you mentioned, the original idea was (or perhaps still is) to create a game for your children, and I think that comes through in the design — in a good way!

Actually, some of the minigames really reminded me of Hugo, that little character who used to appear on TV years ago. Such good memories! 😄

🦖 How far did I get?

I eventually stopped playing during the T-Rex chase.
I found it quite difficult to coordinate jumping and collecting stars while trying to escape, and I kept stumbling a little too easily.

Although, to be fair, I also had to get back to working on my own game projects, haha.

All in all, great job, mate!

I think you've got something really cool here, with plenty of personality and a lot of effort behind it. The things I've mentioned are just small issues I came across while playing, and they certainly don't take away from the overall positive experience.

By the way, are you planning to release it on PC, Google Play, or any other platforms?
Cheers from a fellow Spanish indie dev! 😁
