Trying to think what I could have done better - I played a lot of cool games in this jam and I am proud of what I accomplished solo.

Good!
thanks, are you doing 1 bit jam?
Not this time, I've been busy with another jam (AI Browser Game Jam 5) and haven't even looked at the 1-bit one. Are you in it? This is what I've been making: https://ssang2.itch.io/touch-the-sky A rat with a torch in a dark maze. If you have ten minutes sometime I'd love to hear what you think.
ill try it tomorrow morning
I tried it, the gameplay and graphics are nice. you should try to add a story maybe or more of a reason for wanting to get through the mazes, or maybe a countdown timer or your fire burns out if you don't beat the maze too fast - those are my suggestions.
Thanks for taking the time to play! There is a story in there, though it's mostly in the opening: something put the lights out across the whole world, and a rat stumbles on a torch that turns out to be special, so it climbs toward the surface. I probably should make that come through more during play.
The time-attack idea is a good one — the torch burning down would fit the game well. I'll put it in a post-jam update. Thanks again for giving it a go.
maybe through the gallery you can find out more about why all the lights went out, maybe there is an antagonist or monster chasing the mouse you need to light up with...
Oh, that's an idea I never would have thought of!
I can try it again on your next update
you should check my 1 bit jam entry: https://devinwill645.itch.io/duki-the-first-dungeon
