First game, dark-fantasy browser RPG: looking for honest feedback on pacing and class balance

Hi everyone! I just released my first game, Echoria: Awakening, and I’d love honest feedback. I’m a beginner and built it with AI help.

Game: https://itriedgaming.itch.io/echoria-awakening
Genre: Dark-fantasy RPG, text-driven and turn-based
Platform: Browser (best on desktop, phones untested)
Length: About 3-4 hours for a full run, free
Status: Complete and playable

The idea: You wake with no memory, knowing only that you lost something great. Failure leaves marks: the screen cracks after your worst moments, and a stalker in the caves gets stronger each time he catches you.

What I most want feedback on:

  1. Opening (first 20 minutes): Was it clear what to do? Did it hook you or drag?
  2. Classes: Which of the three did you play, and did it feel different from the others?
  3. Difficulty: Did you hit any spikes (a boss, the caves, the stalker)?
  4. Bugs or confusing screens: Anything broken, unclear or hard to read?
  5. Page and screenshots: Does the itch page make you want to click Play?

Notes: It has screen shake, flashing and glitching text, plus dark themes (death, body horror, an optional self-mutilation choice). Saves live in your browser, so don’t clear your data mid-run.

Even a short reply helps. A sentence like “I got stuck at X” is plenty. I’ll answer every comment, and I’m happy to play and comment on your game in return.

I haven't played it yet, so for now I can only answer the page question. The opening of the description does a lot of work, "You wake with your fist closed around nothing" sets the mood better than any feature list would. One small thing I noticed: your post says the game is complete, but the status on the page is set to In development, and some players skip anything marked that way, so it's worth switching it to Released if it's done. The bullet list under "The practical part" also looks a bit bare, since items like Turn-based combat and Cave travel have no line after them, so one short sentence each would help. Having the 3 to 4 hour length and the content warnings right on the page is a good call too.

The cracks spreading across the screen after your worst failures is a really cool idea for a text RPG, congrats on finishing your first game.

Thanks Jeremy, really useful! You’re right about the mismatch, and that was my wording. The story in this game is complete with its own ending, but it’s the first chapter of a larger one, so I’ll make that clearer on the page. I’ll also fix the bare bullets with a line each. Glad the opening and content warnings work. If you play, I’d love to hear where you get stuck!
