GO80: A fantasy computer from 80s with unix-like OS.

This program lets you travel back to the late 80s an era of old computers and hardware that, by today’s standards, would be considered quite weak.

You can write actual utilities, games, and other software for it in C, compiling the binaries for the RV32IM architecture (RV32Im, simply because it was easy to implement not that it’s some sort of full-blown RV32-based computer!!!). But even if you don’t know C, you can still have fun exploring the existing utilities.

I’d lov to get some feedback on whether you find the concept interesting and what you think of the final result. And for those who develop in C - what do you think of the SDK? (It’s available as part of the source code.)

For those who don't know C, I’ve created a BASIC implementation for GO80; it allows you to write programs using this simple interpreter without ever leaving the GO80 environment. https://github.com/greqwx/BASIC80

Late-80s hardware with a real C→RV32 path is a rare fantasy-computer ask. Tip for feedback that moves the SDK: ask C folks one concrete “first tool that failed to compile or run” — concept interest is cheap; that first stuck binary is the signal.

Hi, I used RV32 to make it easier to support running binary files.

Thanks for the feedback; I’ll take your advice into account.
