Design Statement
When I listened to the theme track, I imagined a lighthouse somewhere in the middle of the ocean at night. That became the starting point for "Star Keeper".
I decided to make an incremental game where players control a lighthouse, help ships navigate, collect resources, and gradually unlock new mechanics through upgrades.
I also wanted the game to be relaxing, without enemies or combat. Just a small world that becomes more interesting as you progress.
For the art, I went with simple colored pencil drawings on cut-out paper. I wanted everything to look like something a child could make with a few pencils and scissors.
The theme track plays during the runs because I felt it fit the setting well. I didn't try to build the gameplay around the music itself, but it helped me come up with the original idea and atmosphere for the game.
