Design Statement
This game is a simulation of what an MMO is like minutes before it shuts down forever.
Living and breathing online worlds are one of the most foundational and interesting parts of digital culture, so we wanted to capture the end of the life cycle to help people understand more about why video games can be so special!
Our team is a group of recent graduates, so when we listened to the jam’s theme music, we recalled the fleeting moments at the end of college. Those final moments of challenge and triumph, the last chance to make memories before we all go our separate ways . . . That is what powers the soul behind our game.
At the same time, the music track is playful and lighthearted, so we decided to highlight that friction within our game. You’ve got fast, agile movement, but are compelled to stop and smell the roses before the inevitable end. You won’t see everything, but that encapsulates the feeling we want you to experience.

Game Instructions (launch steps, controls, and gameplay overview)
Our game is available to play in your browser and as a separate download (which can improve the experience). If you install our game, unzip the file and play the .exe located inside.

Our game begins (and otherwise includes) some menu button prompts, which you can navigate by clicking on them.
Controls:
WASD - Standard movement
Mouse - Control the camera
E - Interact (when prompted)

Since The End of the Fifth World is a simulation of an MMO, there are no explicit goals set in front of you in the final moments of its world. You can participate in various activities, like releasing crystals and making friends with other players, or just sit back and hear stories from your close friend about your time in The Fifth World. Shortly before the end of service, you will have the opportunity to go to the final World Crystal as a final activity.

There is a lot of potential here. I love MMORPGS.

This game made me cry, it triggers a very familiar feeling that I can't describe.
The game is not ideal in its realization, but I truly loved the concept.

I thought that the chat ban thingy was a joke, but when I was able to write something in the end I was touched.
All these "Players" feel so alive...

I've watched the progress of development in Discord server and was surprised that this game has no comments and reviews so far... That's sad.

I feel nostalgia for a game I've never played.

But maybe I'm just too sentimental.
Wonderful experience!
