Since the game always saves at the "start" of the screen you were in - one thing to do - is save your game.
But before you quit - go back in and look at the save game's "image" - to make sure the screen has changed.
We learned in "Chapter Two" if you save in the Garage - it doesn't take you out of the pod. Looking at the same game, will show you the Escape Pod. So to make sure you're saving in a New area, I'd recommend before quitting to look at the "thumbnail" of your new save game.
