Have you thought about putting an anticipation animation for the eyes ? So that we can know that they will appear at least a quarter of a second before they appear. It might help the player !

This is a very creative mechanic!  The game is challenging, sometimes it's hard to time a throw with the opening of the eyes, making this so it's a little harder than it seems to get the ball to the catcher. As a fan of creepy space monsters, I absolutely adore the aesthetic. Great game!
