I've tried using cameras to force the ghost to appear but when I use the cursed Dagger it just automatically fails the ghost hunt

You have to burn the stick to freeze her and attack her with the dagger.

or you can just stab her when she start to hunt. before she teleport to a mirror 

cheers,  i used the stick to force her into a tv then stabbed her when she was emerging from the tv to start hunting

The new version incense stick is not effective to her. You need to knock her down with a dragger in the ghost room. This make Mariam the most difficult ghost to be captured. I perfer more time before she prepared to teleport to a mirror.
