Just a suggestion, how about putting to the materials' description on which galaxy or planet they can be found? It can be very helpful for people focusing on gathering materials before they advance in the story.

Or perhaps a data log on the ship's control panel (driver seat) or on the wall by the crafting stations that keeps track of where you found something as you find it. That way you don't end up spoilering yourself.

Yup, your suggestion is better, something like:

Copper - galaxy 2 - 02133 (not accurate)

galaxy ????

galaxy 1 - 01014 (not accurate)

galaxy ????

It records them on some log once you found that certain item on that certain galaxy and planet.
