What happened to Team Salvato? Where are they now?

Seriously. They just dropped this VN created with a small modicum of effort and just fucked off forever. This is exactly the kind of interactivity that Visual Novels as a Genre are largely missing.

For whatever reason there is still no DDLC 2 or more Doki stuff beyond merch and he seems to have handed the IP off to whatever publisher made the heretical "DDLC+" for consoles.

it's one of the first topics about which I asked on Reddit, and now I see it pops up at least once a month... Consider that, as discussed in that page, the Team is smaller than I thought (the graphical artists Satchely and Velinquent are not officially part of Team Salvato), so it's hard to believe that they are really working on three projects at a time.  On the ohter hand, it's curious that a guy that calls himself a game creator did not produce any game for 6+ years. My personal idea is that Dan Salvato has a "normal job" for a living, tops up his wage with the DDLC merch, and works on Magicore Anomala in his spare time (and dreams about the other 2 projects while sleeping - and I really hope none of those is DDLC 2, because a sequel wouln't make much sense).

this is pretty rude. i think its entirely fine for someone to make one game and stop at that. i also by they, remember you're talking about like 1 or two people. also, tell me how the fuck a ddlc 2 would work and if you know so much about how easy it is to make games and how someone should obviously add sequels to games whether it makes sense or not, why don't you get me flabbergasted with your new daily ddlc sequels instead of sitting in your chair all day complaining that you're not getting exactly what you want served on a silver platter. fucking disrespectful.

Sorry thepurplepug, I was confused by the way this discussion system works (I'm an old forum-geezer...) so I stupidly thought your message was a reply to mine, while it was a reply to the OP, Colonel Gerard...

So, for anybody that happens to wonder what I thought and what I wrote... Since I was confusing the two users with the same profile picture, I apologized because I tried to summarize a wider discussion in a too short post, and said "never meant to be rude or disrespectful, neither to the OP nor to Dan Salvato or any other person who works with him - and if you read the Reddit thread I linked above, you'll see that nobody from that community of hardcore DDLC fans ever called me rude.

While I unfortunately never made games, I'm a professional computer programmer so I know how hard is to make good software, and exactly for this reason I greatly admire whoever can make great games like this one - with extra kudos points of them being a small indie team, not backed by megacorps. I'm sorry if my English-fu is bad and the received message sounded like exactly the opposite that I wanted to send."

did you get me mixed up with the person from the original comment? we are not the same person, i can see why you might have thought that though considering we have the same pfp. i wrote a reply to the first guy

Thanks Dan Salvato for coming into the visual novel space, ruining the perception of visual novels by repeating an untrue stereotype that they are all shallow dating simulators, then dropping off the face of the planet. DDLC came out a year after VA11HALA, many years after Steins Gate, in fact, after a great many visual novels. He said he was working on a cyberpunk visual novel in the late 10s but that's gone nowhere. Imagine if Dan Salvato, "that guy who made DDLC", came out with a visual novel that shows a wider audience they can be tasteful (duh) and be a worthwhile experience. He could have had a serious industry impact, and elevated himself to an important part of the history of the visual novel... now, he's more of a footnote, spiked some interest before he let it deflate like a sad balloon. DDLC did not have a very good story, it leaned heavy on gimmicks, all okay because it was his first game after all, and I was excited to see where he would go next. Eight years later, all he's done is commission a remake of that same crappy game. Don't make excuses for him on the basis of programming; if nothing else, he is undeniably a talented programmer, judging by that sick Amiga game he's working on. He could take Ren'Py to it's limits with ease. Maybe what he's doing now is better suited to him... maybe he should stay away from visual novels anyway.
