How does the game fit the theme?
The game embodies the idea of “Risk it for a biscuit” through its core loop. To survive, the player must venture into the foggy forest and risk facing the lurking enemy in order to collect unique items that activate protective zones. Each safe zone offers temporary comfort and safety, but only if the player dares to find and bring back the required objects.

Every moment challenges the player to gamble with danger in hopes of gaining a few more seconds of safety — perfectly reflecting the theme of risking everything for the chance to survive.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I only used some small snippets of my previous code and a clean project base to speed up development. Since I’m not using a game engine, I’m allowed to reuse my own code structure as a foundation, but all core mechanics, assets, and gameplay for this jam were created during the event.

Sounds and models taken from public sources under CC - CC4 licenses.

The art drew me in. :) Gave you a follow anyway in case it gets finished!

I only started working on gameplay a day before the deadline. Before that, I was busy switching the renderer to PBR and updating the model loading classes.

I think I saw your game and render quite early in the jam, was kinda hoping to see how it turns out :D or how the game is gonna look like. I think you might have spent quite a lot of time getting the graphics right before getting the gameplay done. Jam is quite tight in time as a resource so it's quite understandable.
Though I think you could have made it as a walking simulator and that would be great too, Dear Esther was only walking after all

Developer

Yeah, my mistake was focusing on shaders instead of gameplay 😅 During the jam, I wasn’t just working on graphics — I was writing classes for model export and implementing PBR rendering. Even when the game is soon available, I’ll still limit it to a screenshot-level demo for now, to spend more time on gameplay.

But overall, yes, I want to make the graphics really high quality, like a proper PC game.

About Dear Esther — I feel like it has a really sad atmosphere. Personally, I’d like something more neutral, like in Voices of the Void.

Dear Esther story was quite sad yeah. But I don't know if you can make an atmospheric with darkness and contemplating feels with a neutral feeling. Dear Esther, Gone Home, What Happened to Edith Finch all have a very dark story behind it.
On the other hand, if you have a working shader, would probably be great already to build your next game :D

I didn’t make it in time, sorry, but the game will be published within 2 days after the game jam.
