as said below the game doesnt scale properly so, the book is barely readable but the overall concept is there and with some amount to refining this can actually turn into a great game I would say.

the audio is another thing. I would add some background audio doesnt need to be much for my game its just a looping rain sfx.

submitting 21 seconds before the deadline is actually insane thou lol. I thought I was running late.

anyways, good job on submitting your first game jam game. Hope to see at other ones as well :)

Developer

its not my first game jam game its my 3rd i just forgot about it for 3ish days so i was running super tight and could not bug fix or add sfx or juice stuff like that

Some things I have noticed immediately after launching the game:

Disable/remove any "Exit" buttons for the web version of your game. All it usually does is freezes your game or turns it into a black screen.

As some people said, game doesn't scale  with window and book covers only like 1/4 of the already small screen, making it unreadable.

Attack animation is barely noticeable (also why would a wizard swing his staff like a melee weapon?)

I think I could damage and kill things through the walls/fences.

I'm not sure if the game fits the theme at all? I guess it might have something about trust written inside the book?

Still, many people probably didn't even submit their game at all, so congrats on joining the game jam! (21 seconds before deadline is diabolical )

Developer

THANKS A LOT is what  I always have to say beacause most people just say nice game or only say nice things so no exit buttons is what i always say when web games have exit buttons but for the reson that in esting i use windows i have exit buttons and dont remove them (aagh) The book was noted to me by everyone and i will change it after the rating period also that is a meelee attack and since it is making an area it can hit though walls and it looks and feels fine when the sprite is enabled which was hidden for debugging it hits black after the king but you are not supposed to go like that it takes to the prince and you save him behind bars but he does not need saving instead he summons knights to kill you so you should not trust the king and i fyou take the teleport map from the gaurd it is a trap and makes the prince fight harder love the story of 21 seconds before the deadline, now after some more replies i will leave as i have been on the community for like 10 hours (i took breaks dont worry)

Some feedback:
- some instructions would have been nice in the game,
- the warriors in the duels were mismatched with the shadows so I didn't know where the attack collision would be, but figured it out.
- running against wall diagonally allowed for speed boosting (this was good since the movement was otherwise kinda slow)
- after winning the tournament and talking to the king the game just went black without any message.
I would say good job on creating your very first game, obviously things need work, but still :)
Hope you had fun overall!

THANK YOU SO MUCH I really need some problems in my game for people to tell me I'll fix these bug after the jam and tell you  also this is not my first game just the first one i wanted to i make i only forgot the jam was there for 3ish days so i had barely any time to make it and left so many bugs in and i did not test it!

Nice work on a first game.  Took me a while to figure out that clicking is how you do combat.

Developer(+1)

firstly this is not my first game just the first i wanted to make second the book was supposed to work and that tells you how to move about enemies and how to attack and the stuff you gain with levels, Thanks for playing!

Oh sorry.  I thought I read it in the comments that someone posted.  Also, you are a mad lad for submitting your game 21 seconds before the deadline!!!!   Well done!

Developer

About that.. Possibly the most rush i ever felt and I wanted to add so much more and I wish that i had not forgoten about the jam for like 3 days

Wizardo FTW! Nice work on the game, seeing as this is the first game you wanted to make and that you finished it for the jam, so congratulations are in order.

Couple of constructive feedback:

1. For top down games you want to normalize the velocity when going diagonally so it doesn't move faster than going horizontally or vertically

2. Learn about how to add more juice to your game. This video is a good start

Other than that, it's a charming game and I like the visuals you were aiming for.

Keep it up!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback @Alophonsus! This game is much far from finished and i was on a tight shedule of forgetting the jam for the first 3ish days, as far as juice goes I really got none have I?

Developer

PS. That was a great video on juice i think i will try to add juice thanks a lot for it!

this is really cool especially the art i love the style you dont see it very often it just took a bit of time getting used to the controls.

Developer

Considering all the good stuff people said about my game i think i was too hard on myself and about the controls i coudnt think of any other keys maybe ill add a customization feature after the jam, Thanks for playing!

Submitted

nice game, nice idea, what do you think to change attack steering ?

Developer

i think its good enough especcially for the limited time i had but i might change it to be in the direction of mouse, Thank you for playing!

I did like the character design and visual style you were going for,

I do have some notes for you though:

  • in the browser when I full screen it doesnt full screen but only goes into the corner of my monitor,
  • the text in the book is to small to read
  • the combat seems inconsistent with sometime I hit and don't
  • a tutorial of the controls would be nice!
  • for your enviorments I would have a look at tile mapping to help it be a bit more seamless

I do want to add with a bit more work I do think this could be a charming little game.

Developer

Yeah about that you see the book was rushed a bunch tutorial of controls was in the book and idk why it does not full screen i think i have to edit the page after the rating for the  and the last couple of maps were VERY rushed with the combat it is more like an arrow head which spawns in front of the player at the direction and checks if an enemy is in it and deals damage so maybe a square would be better but im not sure, Thanks for the feedback though!!
