WELCOME!
You've stumbled across the Chug Some Water Jam, a student led jam designed to celebrate human creativity and effort in game making.
BACKGROUND
This jam is hosted by a small group of students who, after learning about one of Handshake AI's recent AI Skills Studio Challenge, decided to host a counter jam, designed to celebrate the human creativity and effort that goes into all elements of video game production. This Studio Challenge, sponsored by OpenAI, invites students to use generative AI tools to create a multiplayer game for a cash reward of $1,000 USD, stating that "it takes under an hour, needs no coding experience, and builds a skill employers want."
As students learning to work in the video game industry, we know that it can take way longer than an hour to polish a game you feel confident enough to add to your portfolio. Even with the use of generative AI, we also know that a lot of designers, developers, and producers prefer to work in teams, and trust human made work significantly more than AI generated work, on all ends.
This doesn't even begin to tackle the ethical and environmental concerns Generative AI brings up, hence the name: Chug Some Water Jam. We encourage our fellow students and video game enthusiasts to drink some water (not an energy drink), start a team (or join solo), and get creative! Almost anything goes in this jam, provided it meets a few general requirements:
GUIDELINES
- This should go without saying, but absolutely no use of generative AI should be used for any part of the development process.
- Try to keep gameplay under two minutes. It can get difficult to play everything for voting if games last longer. That being said, if you feel it is creatively necessary to go over this time by a few seconds, don't worry about it!
- Unlike the Handshake Challenge, your game does NOT have to be multiplayer. Unfortunately, we will also NOT HAVE A CASH PRIZE TO OFFER. We know this is sad and annoying, but the reality is big tech has wayyyy more money to spare than some college students.
- Keep gameplay PG-13. Please, no explicit content, including, but not limited to: nudity, sex scenes (some references are okay), and excessive violence without warning.
- Absolutely NO HATE SPEECH, SLURS, OR ANYTHING OF THIS 'GENRE' are acceptable. We shouldn't have to say this, but we will anyway.
VOTING PROCESS
Now, onto the fun stuff! Submissions will be publicly voted on, since there are no prizes for the winners and this is just to have fun and make a game. If you win, congrats! You get bragging rights! That being said, please, don't cheat in the voting process. Additionally, there will be some shout-outs for some cool mechanics, art, and story structure as determined by the jam organizers. Submission opens on October 31, 2026 at midnight (PT), and close on November 15, 2026, at 11:59 PM (also in PT).
To reiterate, there is no collective theme for this jam! Just have fun, create something, and be creative. We look forward to seeing what everyone has to submit!
