I love this game, the art is really cool and you need 2-3 tries to get the rocket going :p If i had one piece of advice, the character controller feels a bit sluggish, maybe you could look into linear interpolations (lerp) to the speed to make it feel a bit more natural :) Can't wait to see the next part !
Thanks. Yeah, planned to look into movement improvements later. I'm hoping to get our update out soon.
I tried to cheese the weight by leaving some of the fuel behind. Though it seems like we need every drop of fuel. Can't get away from leaving some tools behind.
Can't wait for the tools I leave behind to bite me in later chapters.
Yeah, you will need to be strategic about it later, but now, you can get away with it. Thanks for playing!
Hello, I'm also continuing my game from GWJ#88, good to see other wild jammers here!
Comapred to jam version (which I played during the rating phase of the jam) I see that there is more polish, but I hoped for the next chapter!
I can see from the devlogs that there is a lot of refactoring and cleaning and while I understand that (I also had to refactor my game) I'd focus more on putting more content or do changes directly affecting the game, unless refactorings are strictly required to develop it further.
I'm waiting for the second chapter! Good luck!
Yeah, I played your game in the Wild Jam! I plan to play some games and rate people this weekend. Thanks for coming by and dropping a comment.
This was a neat little game. It is a good start. The intro does a good job of having story and telling the player what to do. It does still take a bit of exploring the interactable screens to figure out how to meet those requirements. I tried launching under different conditions, and like the various endings.
It would be nice if you allowed diagonal movement. You don't need to add more art, just allow the movement while facing one of the 2 directions.
It wasn't too bad exploring and figuring out what was interactable, but it also would have been nice if the things you could interact with had an indication when you were near, even if not facing them. With the movement it did feel a bit repetitive taking a step, then turning to see if I could interact with something new.
Even though you're not required to play the games for this jam, you still did anyway. I really appreciate the feedback. Regarding movement and interaction, I changed it from simply entering the collision zone and facing any direction, based on my testers' feedback for the game. Now you suggest changing it back. Haha. I love game development. I do have diagonal movement on my list of things to do when I'm done as a game improvement. Sadly, I haven't updated the game with these improvements yet, as I haven't stitched together all the new scenes and pieces, but I do hope to have phase two out soon. Thanks again, I can't wait to play your game for the jam!
For us, giving and receiving feedback is a big part of doing jams. The feedback from other devs has been a huge help in becoming better game devs ourselves.
I'm not saying that you should make it so the player can interact without facing the object. Just give the player some feedback that they are near something they can interact with, so they don't have to walk and turn a lot. I wanted to be sure I found everything I could interact with, which meant a lot of take a step and turn, instead of just walking next to everything. I wasn't sure of the size of the collision zone, so made a lot of small steps.
