Nice idea for the game, i like the wild west theme for the game. I think combat felt good but the timer was far too short. About time I see the enemies it is too late to get more then 1 or 2 shots off. I think with some more balance it will be fun to play, maybe how it is now could be a hard mode.

Good game and upgrades were good added parts, despite finding it hard it still was good trying out

Nice wild west vibes! I’m usually good at typing, but I wasn’t expecting number typing, which was an additional challenge for me due to me not having a numpad :D

I found it a bit silent, would love to hear more sounds like gunshots, combat initiation etc, would add a lot to the game and atmosphere.

I’ve really appreciated the incremental nature of the game, it was easy to get into the flow, once you started upgrading your reaction time, health, tonics and number of bullets, it was quite fresh.

I loved the art and wild west theme! Being able to buy upgrades and then return to the dungeon was a nice feature to help progression but I still struggled to win battles. I can manage 1 or 2 baddies but when there are 4+ it felt impossible to take a round without getting shot lol. Great work!

This is a really cool setup. and I gave it a fair shake, but I just don't think I have enough muscle memory using the Numpad buttons to react in time.

EDIT:  Didn't realize you could leave the mine to upgrade.
I bought 3 time upgrades, but didn't fare much better.

Really cool combination with reaction number button, then upgrades and try again. It made me, who admittedly was very bad at the game feel like I was getting better at it when in reality I was just making the game easier with the upgrades.

There were some quirk with the shooting or something I didn’t understand, because the number of bullets seemed to be endless, yet at times I could only fire a single bullet, sure to have hit more buttons before the UI timer indicator had run to the bottom. It could be that the indicator was running behind, but that would be very problematic in a reaction based game.

Also couldn’t manage the final boss, which I think was utterly broken for me. I even tried spam pressing 4 and hoping it would appear and when it did, I still lost.

So even though my reaction times were really bad, I did enjoy playing and if the bullets and kinks in the mini-game had been ironed out it would have been a real banger of a game. Still very good though!

That is a fun one.

A bit frustrating a first, at least until the upgrades kick in. Very interesting genre mix too. The cralwing part is decent with good perspective and movement.

I like it! Thanks for sharing!

This game is REALLY challenging. I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the Dungeon Crawler Jam.

I got rid of El Pollo Loco, refused to kill any chicken. This was what I want a boss fight to be in such a game, just a simple duel to see who's quicker.

I enjoyed the game. Perspective is perfect, Movement is fine since it's fast although not as I prefer when mashing the button especially in a game where you're going to go back and fourth to a shop, these ones benefit the most from moving  as fast as you press the buttons. The combat system is fun with pretty much the right difficulty I was looking for at this moment, character progression is satisfying as you come from having difficulties shooting one dude to shooting 5 with little effort.

Cool one!

Short but sweet! The art, and concept was fantastic. I loved the idea of the combat being resolved with a reaction challenge and hitting the right targets quickly which goes perfectly with the western setting. It kind of reminded me of those old shooting gallery midway games. The balanced seemed prefect pretty much right up to the boss and picking upgrades to progress was great.

A minor improvement might be a fast travel option back to the entrance, it got a bit cumbersome if you got real deep and wanted to spend your money before the last boss or allow the instant step to be instant but without the delay between moves. Minor complaints for a great entry!

Gameplay begins around the 30s mark here

One of my favorite entries so far!

Really hard at first, but once you buy a few time upgrades and bullets, it becomes WAY more manageable and fun. I got all the way to the end, but I encountered a weird bug: I had to alt tab out of the game at one point and coming back, I would always do a default shot whenever I entered a duel. I could not get this to stop. This was fine in general, because I had enough health + bullets to do all combat but it soft-locked me out of the boss battle where you only get one shot.

Still, it's not a problem for anyone who doesn't alt tab so no points deducted for this. Really great entry, enjoyed everything about it.

Nice combination, but found it too hard to play even with numpad once you get 2+ bandits

The game looks great! the typing based reflex game I think was a good idea but it's beri beri hard to play without a keypad :/

Very nice game idea.
I did have trouble understanding the mechanics though.

When entering a fight it start with the gun firing then we wait for mobs to show up, then we type as many keys as we can before timer runs out which does not deduct any bullets or have any gun animation. When the timer is near the end you are locked from entering keys so you kinda need to upgrade the timer so you got additional time. When you get to the boss you shoot automatically without entering a key. Had to spam a number and hope it would end up at that number to kill him, was this intended?

If these things was a bit clearer it would make the game even better.

Good job!

Hey, thanks for playing!

No, it's not supposed to shoot automatically. It should only fire when you press any key on the keyboard. If you have ammo, you're able to fire at any moment before the timer runs out. Even before the bad guys show up.

I'm sorry you ran into those issues. Thanks for the feedback!

I absolutely loved this entry! Perfect difficulty, did not overstay its welcome, great graphics! The only complaint was the input controls were not 100% perfect. Awesome job!

Hey Captain! It was such a blast watching you play. I had so much fun!

About the movement, are there any games whose controls you really like? I’d love to try them out and use them as reference for my next games.

Thank you so much!

Interesting take on the "Genre Fusion".
The game is difficult. I suppose the numeric keypad would be a more fun way to play, but unfortunately I don't have one on my keyboard. As suggested by "Evgeni Doudar", alternative key mapping to "QWEASD + space" might be nice.

It's nice approach to battle, but it's difficult to play without num keyboard, for some reason I doesn't work on my laptop as numpad. Might be cool to change numbers to movement keys. 6 QWEASD + space could be enough and give a little bit more time to get used to battle rules.

I thought the game was really original, but unfortunately it felt like it was always better to press every key instead of trying to shoot the baddies. If I tried to press the 2 or 3 correct keys I might get them, or might lose a life. If i kill everything I’ll get +100 for the chicken, -50 for the civilian, leaving me better off before you take into account I’m immune to damage?

Developer (1 edit)

Hey Kai, thank you so much for playing!

The Chicken and the Civilian kind of cancel each other out. One gives you 50 gold, the other takes 50 gold.

Only a few rooms near the entrance of the mine can be kind of bonus rooms, where 3 chickens and one bandit show up.

At the beginning, you don’t have enough ammo to clear the whole room. Focusing on hitting the chickens early on and looking for treasures on the map are good strategies to get stronger quickly.

If you die, you are sent back to the entrance of the mine and have to fight your way to the boss all over again.

If you have enough ammo to blast everyone in the room, you're more than ready to take down El Pollo Loco and finish the game. =)

Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciated it!
