The Jam

Gamestorm is a podcast all about game creation and how easy it is for everyone to make games. 90%+ of the work that comes after "oh I have a cool idea for a game" is often where people get hung up. So lets push past that!

In this jam you'll take a prompt from the first seven episodes of Gamestorm, and turn it into a full game! You'll have until March 16th to submit your game here. Find the prompt that inspires you the most and jump in. Don't feel pressure to make the most polished thing ever, just create

My goal for this jam is that you walk away with a fun game that you're proud of. Don't let the popular trappings of nice art and graphic design dissuade you from releasing something. It can be as simple as a photo of a notebook that you scribbled the game rules into! On the flip side, make whatever speaks to you - if you want to lean into the art and visual design, do that!

The Prompts!

  • A game for whoever can show up that week.
  • Co-opt existing board game pieces.
  • Pools of Dice as clocks.
  • Repurposing existing physical media.
  • A game with a bingo board.
  • Roll any number of dice.
  • Using every die 1-20 (Yes, literally d1, d2, d3... d18, d19, d20!).

Some tips and starting points:

  • Feel free to interpret the prompts less than literally.
  • Keep your mind open to using the mechanics as a part of the game, rather than the core. Both can be good.
  • If you're stuck, listen to the episode for the prompt you're most interested in and write down all the things you think of as we start to bluesky.
  • If you're bold, aim to make the core game in 1-2 hours. Feel free to add some more time for editing and any layout.
  • Join the Storygames Chicago Discord and ask questions in the channel! I'll be happy to answer them.
