Gaming Mantralaya presents

GMT Jam #1

Welcome all to the very first game jam hosted by our humble little community. This is a beginner-friendly jam, aimed at being creative, inspiring fellow devs and designers and having lots of fun.

This jam offers two tracks to compete in (the two are not mutually exclusive so a one individual/team can win prizes in both tracks):

Track 1

You build a fun game that makes use of creative takes on the theme that will be revealed when the jam starts. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd position that you can compete for. The judgment criteria have been described in subsequent sections.

Track 2

You become an inspiration for other game dev by sharing your dev log on our discord server. Your dev log will be read and rated based on clarify, structure and granularity. If you would like to take part in this track, be sure to create a support ticket in #support on our discord server. We'll ask for a title and a cover image and provide you a space to write your logs. The logs will be public right from the start, so you are free to leave out your secret sauce from the document.

A note from the community

We are hosting a jam for the first time. Even though we are being advised by veterans, mistakes can happen. In case of unforeseen mishaps we will try our level best to fix things, please be patient and allow us the time to do so.

Make sure you read and understand the rules before you start working on your game (not being aware of them is not an excuse to not follow them)

  1. Make your game during the jam, submitting a game submitted in other jams will get you disqualified.
  2. Solo developers and teams (a total of max 3 people) are welcome.
  3. Any engine is allowed as long as it can produce a web build (something that can run on the browser).
  4. Premade tools and assets are welcome. Follow their licenses and credit their creators.
  5. Your game must try to follow the revealed theme.
  6. Only Browser builds will be accepted.
  7. Single player games (without need for a multiplayer server) is encouraged over multiplayer aspects.
  8. The jam is to celebrate human creativity; usage of LLMs will lead to poorer score.
  • Fun factor: Overall, how much fun the game loop is. An addictive loop gets you more points.
  • Theme alignment & originality of the core idea: How aligned the game is to the theme. Originality within the constraints of the theme will get more points.
  • Creative direction, art style, VFX: Creative game direction, art style and pleasant visuals will get more points.
  • Music & SFX: Sound is sacred, better tracks and effects will fetch more points.
  • Optimization & smoothness: The game that stutters or lags on a standard machine would be judged poorly. But keep in mind an incomplete game will not help no matter how optimized it is.
  • Polished and bug free: Attention to details and overall completeness of the game. An incomplete game will get fewer points.

The total prize pool is $300. The splits are as follows:

  • Track 1 : ๐ŸŽฎ Game Dev
    • 1st Prize: $175
    • 2nd Prize: $75
    • 3rd Prize: $25
  • Track 2 : ๐Ÿ“ Dev Log
    • Best Entry: $25

To claim your wins, create a ticket on the #support channel on our discord server.

Note: Prizes will be sent via PayPal (we may consider UPI for special cases), and the community will not bear platform transfer fees (5.00% of the amount on PayPal). Also note that the prize money will be sent to the team lead, and it will be up to the lead to decide how it is split within the team.

Q1: Is this jam beginner-friendly?
Ans: Yes, as a matter of fact, give this is our first jam as well, you'll feel right at home.

Q2: Can I work in a team?
Ans: Yes, just make sure the team size does not exceed the set limit of 3.

Q3: Can I use premade assets?
Ans: Yes, make sure to follow the license and credit the source.

Q4: Can I use LLMs in my process?
Ans: It is impossible for us to restrict people from using LLMs in their process, but this will defeat the spirit of the jam which is focused around human creativity and learning. If you one-shot your way to the prize, and we find out, you'll be banned from GMT events in the future.
