The Gone Fishing Game Jam returns, hosted by the person behind 'Is There A Fishing Minigame?', the Fishing Minigame Guy! This is a 7 day game jam made entirely for fun, based around the simple theme of 'fishing'. Where you take that theme, of course, is up to you!

Like last time, despite the theme being fishing, you don't ever have to include fishing of any kind in your game, should you not wish to make a 'true' fishing mechanic. So long as your game fits within the theme in a way that you can easily justify, it fits!

And like last time, there's no special rule in place this time! You simply have seven days to work solo or in a team of up to four people to create a game or supplement to a game that fits the theme, through any medium you wish (Video game, TTRPG, board game, etc.). So long as you do this and you, of course, follow the rules below, then you're all good!

This is a chill jam, so there's no need to worry about finishing on time. If you're reaching the end of the jam and your project is a WIP or is good enough to be a simple demo, then you can still upload it as a submission. This game jam is for fun, which means you as a developer shouldn't be left stressing about getting the project done in time.

THE RULES

  • Absolutely no generative AI at any point of the creation process. This is a game jam that encourages creators to create, not to prompt AI models that steal from creators.
  • If you're working as a team, you're allowed a maximum of four (4) people on the team.
  • No submissions that were made before the jam. You can reuse assets and code from previous projects, but the game itself must have been created within the period of the jam.
  • All games made for this jam must be free to play or pay what you want. If you choose to make your game pay what you want, you can set the suggested price to whatever you wish.
  • No NSFW content please.
  • Games must fit within the theme of 'fishing' in a way that is easily explained and understandable. Other than that, the game can be whatever you wish it to be! So long as it fits the other rules, of course.

If you're taking part, be sure to let people know on Bluesky and Twitter by making a post with #GoneFishingGameJam! You can also find a Bluesky feed that will show you every game with the hashtag here! We also have a Discord server for anyone who wants to discuss the jam, your progress, or look to form teams!

This jam starts on August 14th at 12 PM BST and ends August 21st at 12 PM BST.

Thank you to everybody who is taking part in this! If you have any questions at all, feel free to message me on Bluesky or the Discord page, or leave a post on the community message board! You can also use the community message board to look for people to work with!

Happy Fishing!
