Welcome to the first Horror Comics Jam!

I haven't seen many jams specifically for comics before; so I figured, why not be the change I want to see in the world? For this jam, you'll have until a few days before Halloween to create a completed horror short comic. Don't worry about following a specific horror sub genre (unless you want to follow the optional theme below), or making something super long for the sake of making something super long. This is an unranked jam, so everyone who finishes a horror comic by the end is a winner!

Optional theme: Summer slasher

Monsters in the woods, killers around the bonfire, a visit to summer camp gone horribly wrong: the summer slasher is arguably one of the most iconic horror sub genres (in my opinion, anyway). If you're looking for an extra bit of inspiration, feel free to use this theme as a starting point! And if you'd rather go a different route with your horror, that's fine too! The theme is completely optional.

Rules

• NO AI. I really hope this doesn't need to be said, but in case it does, the use of generative AI is prohibited from all stages of creating your comic. This includes but is not limited to: concept art, final art, scripting, outlining, thumbnailing, etc. Your best attempt is always better than whatever an algorithm can put out!
• Be respectful. You're allowed to write about sensitive topics, but comics that promote bigotry, self harm or suicide, or hatefulness or otherwise depict them in a positive light are not allowed.
• Your comic must be original and made for the jam. This means fan works and works that had the majority of their work completed prior to the jam's start date are not allowed. If you want to start working on your comic a few days before the jam starts, I won't stop you, but the majority of your comic must be worked on and completed in the jam's timeframe. This will work on the honor system; please use your integrity and best judgement when submitting.
• You may submit your work to other jams as long as they follow those jams' rules.
• You must submit a comic. While books, games, visual novels, audio dramas, etc are all awesome, this jam is for comics specifically. It's in the name!
• Your comic must have at least 8 pages and a cover. Page dimensions are up to you.
• Don't feel too restricted on the definition of "horror". You are not limited to a specific type or sub genre of horror for your comic. You're free to make psychological horror, supernatural horror, campy horror, survival horror, or any other kind of horror story you can think of. You're also free to blend genres (such as a horror/comedy or horror/erotica story), as long as horror is a part of it!
• Erotic/18+ content is permitted. Please remember to tag your submission properly and keep covers and thumbnails free of genitalia as per Itch's guidelines.
• Tag your work properly and add the appropriate content warnings on your project page.
• You are permitted to charge for your comic if wish. Feel free to set your submission to whatever price you like, or make it free to download if you prefer that!
