the jame gam game jam is a 3-day online game-making marathon for teenagers, run by jame gam and hack club! this jam is only for teenagers (13 to 18), and we'll remove submissions from anyone else!

theme

the theme is

i'm just a little guy

optional twist: make your game using only the jame gam palette!

the jame gam palette

download the palette

  • starts: thursday, october 22 at 5pm ET, when the theme is published
  • ends: sunday, october 25 at 5pm ET
  • voting closes: thursday, october 29 at 5pm ET

  1. join this jam with the button above, and sign up at jamegam.hackclub.com to get your invite to the jame gam community!
  2. build a game around the theme, solo or with a team
  3. submit twice: once here on itch, and once to us through the submission form so we know you're a teenager & where to send your prize. the submission form will open closer to the end of the jam, and it'll stay open for a day or two after the jam has ended
  4. play and rate at least 5 other games!
  5. get your prize in the mail!

every teenager who makes a game will get jame gam stickers, plus a prize from the jame gam prize list!

there are no additional prizes for winning, all the rewards for jame gam are purely for participation. the community voting system is in place to push for friendly competition, but it's more to encourage playing each other's games! so make the game you want to make :)

if you're working on a team, every team member needs to fill out the submission form to get a prize!

see the full prize list

  • make your game during the jam and build it around the theme
  • you must be 13 to 18 years old, and so must everyone on your team. we'll remove submissions from anyone outside that range, including from voting and results. to get a prize, you'll need a verified hack club account!
  • put real effort into your game! the bar is low, but we review every submission, and low-effort games won't get a prize
  • no plain tutorial games! you're welcome to use a tutorial to learn, but the game you submit should be fully custom and far enough from a tutorial that we can't tell at all
  • asset packs are fine, but heavily discouraged! credit everything you didn't make in your game's description
  • no generative ai for art or audio. ai help with code is allowed, but also very discouraged. no more than 20% of your code can or should be written by AI, maximum
  • your game has to run in the browser, or on windows, with no setup
  • you'll have to share your source code (on github or a similar website) when you submit to us! there are tons of tutorials online if you've never done that before
  • teams of any size are welcome! as a general rule to get a prize, each member should put in enough work that they could have made a smaller game on their own :)
  • keep it appropriate: no nsfw, hateful, or overly graphic content

once submissions close, everyone who submitted rates games from 1 to 5 in five categories: creativity, theming, artwork, audio, and enjoyment. please rate at least 5 other games! rating other projects is what makes it possible to be rated by others, so the more projects you rate, the more people will play your game

voting closes thursday, october 29 at 5pm ET.

i've never made a game :o
perfect, that's kind of the point! pick an engine (godot is free and beginner friendly) and follow one tutorial all the way through before the jam starts, so you know the basics.

i don't have a team :(
you don't need one. if you want one, ask around in #jame-gam on the hack club slack

i'm not in the us >:/
that's fine, we'll ship prizes worldwide! a few prizes are region-limited, so check it out on the prize page if you're not sure

how long should i spend on my game?
as long as you want! put in real effort and make something you're proud of, the bar to get a prize is pretty low :)

do i need hackatime?
no! hackatime is optional, but we encourage it

how do you know who's a teenager?
to get a prize, you'll sign up with hack club and verify your identity, and you can do that part after the jam! if you skip the prize, we can't check, but we're trusting that no adult wants to sneak into a teen game jam where there's no prize and nothing to win :)

i have more questions! i wanna talk to the organizers!
reach out at augie@hackclub.com! if you're in the hack club slack, you can also message @augie, or just send a message in #jame-gam-help

jame gam lives in the hack club slack. find a team and share your progress in #jame-gam, and ask for help in #jame-gam-help!
