The 11th installment of the Mystery Pizza Society's Game Jam with stupid themes + secret themes to fool your friends with, yay!
This is a local community jam, we get together and play each others games, this is what makes the jam so much fun! The main group is at capacity, but you can host your own meetup with your friends for this jam! We'll be posting our group's games to this jam page and you should do the same so we can check out all the games!
We always pick 2 themes from a list and combine them. This jam's theme is:
where the fuck is my phone + genius vs antichrist
We also have secret themes that are uniquely, randomly (and secretly) distributed to each participant in the local group. At the end of the meetup we try and guess who had what secret theme. This jam's secret theme list is:
rhythm
found footage
bottle episode
: the movie
Gender 2
Double jump (metaphorical)
secret task: make an AMV to go with your game
Positive message
secret room
Shovelware
super short
trains
printers
Nearsighted
Anatomically correct
Golf
If you want to host your own meetup for this jam, you'll need to give each person in a group one of these secret themes without revealing it to yourself, or anyone other than the person who is to receive the secret theme.
Once everyone has the main theme and a secret theme, pick a date in the future for everyone to meet up and play each others games!
The way we run the in-person meetup is we randomize the order the games will be played in, and then pick a random person to play each game, so that every person at the event will be the primary player of another person's game. Made a multiplayer game? No problem! The person assigned to the game is the only one that must play the game, anyone else can join in if they wish.
After each person's game there is a little time for Q&A/discussion about the game before moving on to the next one.
After we're done playing everyone's games, we go around and vote on who we think had what secret theme, then reveal what people's secret themes were.
We usually have 8-10 people, any more than that can take a really long time! Bring/get pizza!
The style of the games that are made for this jam vary a lot! There are some principles we (loosely) adhere to in order to keep things fun.
