Description
Greetings, my name is Dr. Metz. The current year is 2132 and I am 47 years of age. I am the head of biological research (or I should say formerly) of the Biological and Physical Sciences Division at NASA. I have been tasked with decoding these tapes that are all that's left of a mission we have sent to Neptune, the most distant of planets in our solar system. Our Voyager mission we sent to Neptune has come back with zero of our crew left inside, no traces, not even their skeletons. We can only safely assume they ran out of resources and died of natural causes due to the sheer amount of time it takes to journey back. Regardless, we cannot let their life’s work go to waste, so we must continue forward.
Despina
After decoding this tape it seems like these are the sounds of Neptune. It seems our field recorder has picked up the signals of distant chimes (gamelan?). It seems to me like these sounds are naturally produced on Neptune, the natural reverberances and resonances of the storms and ice via the chromosphere seem to produce unique frequencies that can only be observed here. The blossoming wildlife amongst the biosphere of Neptune seem to be abundant, as you can hear in this recording. Quite relaxing stuff.
Ashes of Diamonds
It seems like this tape was captured in a cave during one of the rituals we came to discover whilst researching the Fairies. The Fairies were quite a spiritual people, after the many messages we got sent from our team, we were able to learn quite a bit about their culture. This was their ‘Rain Song’, as we came to find that the rain in Neptune was quite unique. It actually rains diamonds on Neptune, and the Fairies would have a yearly ritual where they would mysteriously summon the rain, and bequeath this fortune amongst their kin. These diamonds were apparently nothing like they were on Earth, they were icy, dashing, and, moreover, uniquely captivating. The peoples of Neptune believed that these diamonds have unique abilities, as we later came to find.
Naiad’s Dance
This is probably my favorite tape and it also seems to be the case with the rest of the staff and peers I’ve been (not allowed) showing. This is the dance of Naiad, one of Neptune’s Moons. This was their Summer ritual and it is extremely special due to the fact that Neptune takes 165 years to orbit the Sun. We managed to time it perfectly and we were able to witness this dance during their summer equinox (if you can even call it that). I was told that you could see their after-images coalesce into a beautiful biofluorescent light show, cascading into a waterfall of the light spectrum. Thanks to our human eyes, we could only maybe see half the colors it was producing. This ritual is even more special to the people of Neptune than us, because the life cycle of the Fairies is equal to the amount of time it takes for their planet to orbit the Sun. They believe in life after death, and that death brings life. The universe is a cycle of this, they believed, and that nothing could truly ever be destroyed, simply recycled and rebirthed into new life. God, the things I would do to be able to have seen that with my own eyes.
Surfing the Chromosphere
Ah, the Fairies, such creative creatures. For their Fall equinox, they would surf Neptune’s chromosphere of all things! Since they are native to this environment, they would burst with color, and surf to the stars (or so I’ve heard). Ironically enough, the Fairies didn’t really seem to value their lives all too much according to my fellow researchers; which is why this ritual seems to exist in the first place. Why care about dying when you could just reincarnate in a century! (God I wish.)
Back To Blue
Well… I don’t quite know what to decipher from this tape. It’s quite hauntingly beautiful, if anything I’m being quite facetious when I say this. Enough with the meta-dialogue, but this seems to be… almost, a last stand of sorts. Between who, I’m not sure, but it seems desperate. One-sided. This sudden tone shift between these tapes has me frightened… What did my people do to the Fairies?
Our Last Dance
Quite the bittersweet ending we have here… I’m starting to have second doubts ...
this whole voyager mission. Was it a one-sided genocide? Was it a power struggle between my fellow crew?
I don’t know what to think anymore… I can feel myself… Slipping… away…

Theme
How does it fit the theme?
My entry fits the theme because it is a series of decoded tapes that were sent from a Voyager mission to Neptune set in the distant future. The capsule was completely empty when it arrived back to Earth, but it was later discovered that it was a lost race of Fairies that lived under the surface level ice of Neptune. The archaeological studies found that these fairies were musical prodigies, and these songs were long since forgotten due to the time it took to travel back to Earth. You may hear the lost echoes of the Fairies, dusty tapes, and the long forgotten memories of a once flourishing, happy race.

Very interesting soundtrack. The different sounds you use are so creative and make your submission stand out a lot. My favorite tracks are either Naiad's Dance that I really liked for that more upbeat/fun song, and Surfing the Chromosphere, for that really cool groove and a bit arcade feel with the square lead. Loved the sort of xylophones in the background. Back To Blue had some crazy drums/basslines, the sound design was just gorgeous. I loved the textures at the beginning and end of Our Last Dance.

i love this omg......... this is one of the few times i actually enjoyed an ambient project, and this time i loved it!! i really like the atmosphere you made in these tracks, i think it really complements the story you made. speaking of the story, both the concept and the way you told it is very creative!!!

my fav songs are Ashes of Diamonds, Back To Blue and Our Last Dance ,......
One of the few ambient oriented osts i've listened to that didn't bore me even for a second! I saw the art cover on discord and my interest was instantly piqued, and the ost did NOT disappoint. Loved every track especially ashes of diamond and back to blue, with ashes of diamond really reminds me of c418's stuff but on the more intense side, while back to blue's ambient dnb/jungle was very much appreciated!! No complaints here, would love to add some of these tracks to my playlist if this ost ever gets posted to youtube!!!
Naiad's dance was going to be my favorite but Surfing the Chromosphere was really really good. All of the instruments were really good and it had energy which I like.
I much prefer fun and energetic songs so I was glad when those 2 songs came in because I was worried it was all going to be very samey with ambience. Having those tracks fleshed everything out and made it feel like a real OST.
I wrote those 2 paragraphs as I listened clearly because Back to blue was also really good with its speed and energy mixing the great piano with the intense percussion section.
I was pleasantly surprised by this whole soundtrack. I expected 6 very slow songs after the first 2 tracks (Which weren't bad just not my style) but then the rest were super good and turned my expectations around. Great work!
this ambient OST is really nice!! i could literally take the fattest nap to some of these tracks, in the best way. super pleasant and enjoyable! the soundscape here is crafted very well. the last 4 tracks are a good contrast! you showcase a lot of compositional flexibility in this submission that you accomplish very nicely. good job on mixing, as well. solid submission!!!! thanks for sharing!
It's serene at times and also playful. Loved the 4th tracks "back to blue." Specially the drums and the over all nina jirachi vibe
