The Raise Your Voice Jam is returning for its second year!

This jam is dedicated to celebrating voice acting in visual novels by connecting voice actors of all skill levels with visual novel developers! If you are a voice actor looking for experience, join our Discord or make a post in the jam's community tab for opportunities to be cast!

Raise Your Voice is part of the Visual Novel Developer Network's mission to elevate visual novels and storytelling games by making professional skills like casting, directing, and producing voice acting accessible to everyone. We want to help developers build confidence in working with actors, preparing scripts, and adding performances that make moments unforgettable; we also want to help voice actors build their experience and confidence by offering them opportunities in original narrative games.

RULES FOR DEVELOPERS

Click on the rules for details and explanations!
Scripts must be finalized before recruitment begins!

No rewrites allowed! This jam is specifically about adding voice acting to a finished script.

You must communicate clearly with your voice actors.

When casting, developers must share the following with prospective actors:

  • Total line count for each character.
  • The number of lines considered “vocally stressful” by the SAG-AFTRA definition (such as screaming, etc.) See the top of page 7 of the document for the definition.
This jam is for non-commercial, narrative-focused games only.

Visual novels and narrative hybrids are welcome. Commercial releases are not — games must be released under itch.io’s "free" or "pay what you want" option.

No sexually explicit content.

We want this jam to be accessible to all audiences, and some participants may be minors in their regions.

No generative AI in any aspect of your project.

Humans must voice act, illustrate, write, and program your submission. AI-generated voiceover, art, writing, and code are strictly prohibited, including in any third-party assets you choose to use.

Tag your submissions with content warnings.

Please follow the ESRB’s content descriptors as a guideline for what to include.

You may begin work on your project at any time.

There are no restrictions on how early you begin work, recruitment, or recording.  The jam period is merely for the submission of projects.  Anything in 2026 is welcome!

RULES FOR VOICE ACTORS

Promote yourself!

Developers will reach out to voice actors they want to work with. Either post in DevTalk's voice-recruitment forum or the jam's community tab with your reel and/or demonstrations so the developers can find you!

Look for interesting projects!

Keep an eye out for projects that suit you and take the initiative when the developer indicates that they want interested voice actors to reach out. You'll never know what might fall into your lap when you take that first step!

Get involved!

We have public voice chat channels! Come to chill-stream and get to know the DevTalk community and wider world of VN development. If that seems too forward, keep an eye out for the Meet & Greet event for this jam, hosted in the Discord server!

Do not cold call developers.

Only contact developers who have indicated that they are participating in the Raise Your Voice Jam, either via DevTalk's recruitment forum or the community tab. Cold calling, or reaching out to someone without this denotation, is against DevTalk's community rules.

WHAT ABOUT OTHER VA-RELATED ROLES?

We need you, too!

Casting directors, Voice Directors, Sound Engineers, etc. are all important parts of the "Voice Acting in Video Games" pipeline. Make a post in our recruitment forum advertising your services, attend the Meet & Greet event, and keep an eye out for interesting opportunities!
