The STFJam series is a series of yearly monthly, week-long game jams that I started because I had no idea what else to do. They usually start at the 8th of the month and judges are given 24 hours to vote by criteria

Here, you can use a wide variety of game engines

You can use:

  • Any Simple Directmedia Layer (SDL) Version
  • Ren'Py
  • Scratch (TurboWarp Desktop recommended)
  • PICO-8
  • Processing (Any version)
  • create-nes-game
  • NESFab
  • GB Studio
  • GBDK
  • RPG Maker series
  • Pyrite64

For the music, you can use:

  • Stock Music (excluding NCS or copyrighted music)
  • LMMS
  • FL Studio
  • Cubasis
  • REAPER
  • MIDI Editors (ie. Signal MIDI, MIDI Editor, MIDIPLEX...)
  • OpenMPT
  • MilkyTracker
  • Furnace Tracker or Furnace-B
  • FamiTracker (including extensions/mods)
  • FamiStudio
  • DefleMask
  • KiraStudio
  • etc.

For SFX, you can use:

  • Stock SFX
  • SFX from other games
  • LabChirp
  • sfxr or jsfxr
  • Audacity (record you own sound effects)

You cannot:

  • Not Safe For Work (NSFW) content (Including within Easter Eggs, Unused Content)
  • Not-Copyright Sounds (NCS) music (They get stuck in my head)
  • The cat
  • Give people a stroke (There's a criteria for grammar)
  • Other languages (This is English only!)
  • Unreal Engine (GPU-Hungry Monster that makes more GPU-Hungry Monsters)
  • Unity (I'm honestly surprised that games are still being made with this engine)

Helpful tips:

  • Keep the splash! (It might disclose your engine)
  • Make it open source! (Put it on GitHub, so if I find any bugs, I can analyze your code and probably make a detailed essay on how the bugs work and how to reproduce them)

You are encouraged to:

  • Use an unfamiliar listed engine or DAW (You are allowed to learn new engines, challenge yourself a bit!)
