We are building two arcade cabinets dedicated to games made by our community. One is already complete, and the second is in production. Both cabinets will be at the event, with identical hardware and controls.

One cabinet will live at Double Decker, while the other will travel with us to events to showcase community-made games.

Make your game in any engine you like but the key requirements are an HTML5 web export and keyboard input support.

Bringing a game

The cabinets run games in a Chromium kiosk browser, so bring a web build, not a native or desktop build and executable.

Supported engines and formats include Godot (HTML5 export), Unity (WebGL export), Construct, Phaser, and plain JavaScript / HTML5 canvas. Other engines are welcome as long as they can produce a compatible HTML5 web build.

Hardware per cabinet

Component Specification
SoC: NVIDIA Tegra X1 (T210)CPU4× ARM Cortex-A57 @ 1.02 GHz + 4× ARM Cortex-A53
GPU: Maxwell, 256 CUDA cores, up to 768 MHz
RAM: 4 GB LPDDR4 (25.6 GB/s)
Display: 720p native, with up to 1080p output
OS software: L4T Ubuntu + RetroPie EmulationStation, Chromium kiosk
Graphics API: WebGL 2.0 through GPU-accelerated Chromium

Performance guidelines

2D games

2D web games are a great fit for the cabinets. Aim for a steady 60 FPS, and test your web export rather than relying only on performance inside your engine’s editor.

3D games

Design for mobile-tier hardware with WebGL 2.0. Think lightweight PS3 Vita mobile-style visuals, targeting 720p at 60 FPS.

To keep performance smooth:

  • Use low-poly meshes and simple materials and shaders.
  • Keep textures at 2048px or smaller.
  • Avoid heavy post-processing, MSAA, and complex lighting.
  • Keep draw calls low and use batching where possible.

Smooth performance in a mid-range phone browser is a useful reference, but not a guarantee, test on the arcade hardware during the event.

Controls

Each cabinet supports two players. Each player gets a custom control panel with:

  • 1× 8-way joystick
  • 8 action buttons: A, B, X, Y, RB, LB, RT, LT
  • 4 additional buttons: Start, Select, and two extra buttons available for per-game use

The controls are read by a gamepad bridge and converted into keyboard keypresses, so your game should use standard keyboard input.

Default keyboard mapping

Control == Key action
Joystick D-pad == Arrow keys
A == Space
B == R
X == Esc
Y == Tab
Start + Select, pressed together == Exit the game and return to the menu

The two extra buttons are unassigned by default and can be mapped to any key per game. For two-player games, confirm the separate Player 2 bindings with us, along with any mappings needed for RB, LB, RT, and LT.
