Design Statement
The theme track made me think of dreams and childhood. It brought to mind a gentle, dreamlike place where you could step away from everyday life for a while. I wanted to turn that feeling into a game focused purely on relaxation: a small escape from a grey routine, where the player slowly brings colour back into the world.
My main design choice was to make that transformation something the player could physically do. By grabbing and peeling away strips of the grey surface, they reveal the colourful world underneath. This gives the player a simple, satisfying interaction that connects directly to the feeling I took from the music.
I chose soft shapes, a playful character, and a contrast between the muted environment and the colours beneath it. Rather than building the experience around a major goal, I wanted the pleasure to come from exploring, peeling, and watching the surroundings change. The idea was to create a peaceful moment where making the world a little brighter is enough.
Game Instructions (launch steps, controls, and gameplay overview)
Open the game in your browser and press Begin the tale. Tap or press Space to skip the intro. Your progress saves automatically, and Continue takes you back to your furthest chapter. Turn your phone sideways for the best view.
Move with A and D, jump with Space, and grab or use things with E. Press H for a hint and Esc to pause. On a gamepad, use A to jump, X to grab and Y for a hint. On a phone, use the on-screen buttons.
The world has turned grey, but life is hiding underneath. Find a glowing seam, grab it and walk away to peel it open. Each seam brings colour back, opens new paths and frees a little Glimmy. Free all 21 Glimmies across three chapters.
