Design Statement
The track evokes for me a mix of innocence, nostalgia, sadness, and tender calmness. I love the sound of the music box at the beginning and wanted to add it as well in the story, being the main element/object of the game.

I love games that are like that, so I decided to create a 3D puzzle exploration with a bit of visual novel game that centers on an object that has a lot of emotional attachment to the storyline.

Game Instructions (launch steps, controls, and gameplay overview)
You can use the keyboard and the mouse. The mouse for advancing the chapter and decisions and the keyboard to move around the scenes. You can also use your mouse instead of E to interact with the scene objects.

Did your project use any AI tools or assets? If yes, please specify.
The majority of the text & dialog is created by a human (the script and the idea are attached as a PDF in additional material), but puzzles, SFX, code and 3D models are created with AI. Not checked "graphics" because the character illustrations, background illustrations, and some asset illustrations (sketchbook and music box) are created by humans (check credits to see this more specifically).

I was expecting another under stimulating visual novel and what I just played I think changed everything i think about the genre.

Unspoken words felt like it spoke to me personally, while also narrating someone else's genuine human experience through an interactive lens. Your team touched on so many topics within the AuDHD experience from a clear honest perspective, every moment of this game was authentic and human without being obvious or aggressive when depicting the negative emotions. The 3D environments, collectibles, and hidden notes made me read every word and the pacing was perfect. The theme track is felt continually through your original soundtrack and design choices. The soundtrack is SO good I just sat there for a while listening in the library and planetarium.

As a beginner developer, I thought the controls were super intuitive and I didn't run into any bugs or dead ends. Amazing job on the flow of the game and unique and easy to learn mechanics. Once I got Owl Vision in  the library I knew somebody cooked here! I also loved the website pages and the drawing mechanic!

As an artist, I am blown away by the seamless character design, photos, UI, environment design... everything!  I think your minimal use of AI as a tool is commendable as the handmade illustrations and writing clearly demonstrate the heart and soul that was lovingly poured into this project.  You created my favorite game I've played so far, and published a polished beautiful game that is fun and easy to play - all within two weeks! The art style is breathtaking and coheasive!

Ok so I really want to think of some constructive feedback and found some minor things that - within the timeframe we had - would have been impossible or are just personal preference. Seriously, this game is so polished and runs in browser so well!

  • ok pondering and I cant think of anything
  • Oh I would add a settings menu when pressing esc to change the field of view (I got motion sick only in the school bc I'm weak to first person view

This remined me of my sky kid easter egg in our game Unfired

Each environment is fascinating!

The planetarium area made me cry... also the glass sculpture reminded me of the game Skate Story (also an indie dev)

What a beautiful, heartfelt game! Every area and chapter felt magical in its own unique way, and the whole experience was filled with so much childlike wonder.

The attention to detail was incredible, right from the screenshake on the door knock in the opening cutscene. The environments were gorgeous, and I loved all the little interactions, like the laptop, being able to inspect the drawings, and the family photo (was that a real photo from one of the devs?).

The puzzles were really creative, and I appreciated how the journal provided hints and puzzle locations without taking away the joy of discovery. I might not have figured out the ceiling puzzle otherwise, and what a beautiful ceiling that was! The aquarium tunnel was one of my favorite areas. I loved how the wall photo foreshadowed it, the adorable drawn fish, the lighting, the jellyfish puzzle, and those gorgeous starry manta rays.

There were so many other thoughtful touches too! The alternate controls for drawing book interactions, the phone interface in the school, the sunglasses adjusting the bloom, and the little chess pawn that could become "anything it wants, including "myself"." That was ADORABLE. Even little lines like "not weird, but variable" stuck with me. The sound design was lovely too, and I'm genuinely impressed you managed to make such a detailed experience run in a browser!

The story felt incredibly personal and relatable. The section about naming emotions to remove your mask was especially powerful. My own daughter brings noise canceling headphones and fidgets to school, so I could see a little of her in Maia. That connection made the experience even more meaningful to me.

My only minor criticism was occasionally having to backtrack to collect rewards after solving puzzles, which interrupted the flow a little. That was mostly a me issue though and I should have learned to pick them up lol.

Overall, this was such a charming, thoughtful expression of art. You can really feel how much love and care went into every part of it. Fantastic work!
