For those who don't know me yet, my name is Jahdah and I'll be celebrating my 30th birthday at The Jörniverse this year. What better way is there to celebrate a birthday than organising a game jam for game devs around the world!

Basic Info

  • Where: The Jörniverse in Jörn, Västerbotten, Sweden (only onsite)
  • When: 8-15th October 2026 (see activities below for more info)
  • Costs: Food and sleeping options need to be paid
  • Why: Jahdah is turning 30 & we're celebrating the opening The Jörniverse

On the Jörniverse Discord server, you can easily recruit jammers for your game pitch and share updates/ funny bugs! It's also the hub for the retreat and is a great community place for sharing your work, finding people to game with, discovering game dev job opportunities, and more!

How To Get There

Train: We have a train station (around 10 mins walk from The Jörniverse), and you can take a direct night train from Stockholm to get here. It’s a long trip but an experience with all the sights along the way. On the train, you can choose private rooms, shared sleeping bunks, or a seat (we recommend bringing an eye mask, camping pillow, & a blanket - if choosing a seat - to maximise rest).

Flying: Our closest airport is Skellefteå. There are always flights from Stockholm, but it’s also possible to fly in from several international airports - for details, check the airport’s website. Other nearby airports include Luleå and Umeå. We'll be able to pick up some from the airport if arrivals aren't too spread out (it takes us 1 hour each way).

Combination: The night train stops at Arlanda Airport, so it's possible to get off a flight and jump on board (please allow ample time in case of delays/ baggage collection).

Driving: We have parking spots available for anyone who wants to drive all the way up here. It can be a long trip though (est. 16 hours from Malmö without stopping), so it can be a good idea to stop somewhere overnight if you're travelling the length of Sweden.

Keep Us Updated With Your Travel Plans

The Jörniverse is happy to help advise you on travel and ask that you keep us updated with your arrival time. Just reach out to Harry or Em - or the wider community - via The Jörniverse Discord.

Timeline (8-15th October)

The Jörniverse is just starting out as a co-living space for game developers, which limits the room & food options. This will be a soft launch for them, so expect things to improve in the future! Any support helps make the retreat viable & is super appreciated.

Rooms

All rooms are uniquely decorated, arranged, and decorated - so no two rooms are the same! The idea is that they all feel creative & homely in their own unique way.

The Jörniverse love using high-quality secondhand finds where possible and are putting lots of love & care into the design process of each room; hostel included.

We have an introductory discount code for the duration of the event that slashes our normal rates. To get up to 50% off, use the code: JAHDAH
Book your stay on our booking page.

Desks

If you're not booking a room, we ask you pay for a desk. This also includes free energy drinks and access to our social activities :))

For the game jam, a desk costs:

  • 75 SEK 37.50 SEK per day
  • 200 SEK  100 SEK for a week.

Simply follow this link, and make sure to choose a one-time deal covering a week and use the discount code GAMEJAM for the best deal!

Local Deals

Paid room options also include free coffee and access to the arcade at The Jörney Café, plus some local deals (e.g. free gym, swimming & Latitude 65 energy drinks) - more will be announced closer to launch.

Northern Lights

It's quite likely that we'll have good Northern lights at the game jam, as it's super close to Autumn Equinox, when there's increased activity. Harry took these pictures very recently.

Theme

  • Strong Emotion - Choose an emotion that your game should strongly conjure
  • Self-Explanatory - You shouldn't need a dev to lean over your shoulder; the game should be self-explanatory
  • Smallest Scope - Indie devs are notorious at overscoping, so lets try to do the opposite! The game is mostly driven by one core mechanic & happens mostly within a single location

Rating

Once all games are submitted, a casual rating system will open to the public for another week. Each game can then be played and rated out of 5 according to theme-related criteria which will be announced later.

Please check out and support your fellow jammers!

Uploading a build:

  • The final deadline to upload your game is: Wednesday 14th of October @ 18:00  CEST
  • We highly recommend uploading a WebGL build to make your game playable on itch
  • There are guides below for doing this for Godot & Unity; we recommend checking them out asap
  • HTML is also possible with software like Twine
  • Expects less players with an Unreal Game as WebGL is not supported (zip a .exe instead)
  • Can reupload as many times as needed (good to test the process)
  • Add admins to edit the game page (visuals/info/controls, etc.) by clicking the admin tab

Godot 4 WebGL Upload Guide (make sure to use Compatibility renderer)

Unity 6 WebGL Upload Guide (make sure to install WebGL module on Unity Hub first)

Twine HTML Upload Guide (remember Twine is capable of playing music & more)

Note on Sponsors

We are getting some local backing from game industry organisations; this helps us bring in more local indies and fund some side activities!
