How does your game fit the theme?
The player will calmly explore the world and then the Storm will spawn and chase the player in a frenetic escape sequence

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
We wrote all the code, made our own music&sounds and made the animations. We used an asset pack just for the graphics and UI

Nice first-person platformer! The controls feel sometimes a little bit out of control but I like how you introduce each new mechanic.

The escape parts of the levels I've played are quite unforgiving! I've managed to beat level 1 which felt good after I finally got it, but I am stuck at Level 2. After jumping down on that bouncy ground, I always get caught a few seconds later by that storm. 😅

Developer

We found that in the current build the speed of the storm is tied to the current framerate. So just increase the graphics and you should be able to beat it with lower fps :)

I've played 10 Brackey's games, and in my opinion... this was the best one!

Developer

Thank you so much! Have you managed to find all the secrets and beat all 3 levels? :)

Not yet, I am a massive noob at gaming haha

Submitted(+1)

Loved the look of it. I would have liked it more if the movement was a bit more tight.

I was having difficulty going up a cliff and kept falling (either overshooting once at the top or just jumping back and falling) . So i stopped trying. Maybe have some level design elements so people of my skill level can also enjoy. Walls to stop overshooting for example.

  • For the Game Design, the levels were nicely crafted, with a clear path most of the time but with hidden critical paths for the player to explore a bit.
  • For the Fun part, it is a good platformer, and if you like the parkour aspect it is enjoyable, but there are some rough edges embedded in the code, which are the lack of noticeable acceleration and too much air control, which made "parkouring" the levels more frustrating than it should have been.
  • For the innovation part, it is nothing very innovative, but this isn't something bad, especially in genre's like platformers, were the gameplay doesn't need to innovate a lot to be satisfactory.
  • I got pretty invested in the theme, mainly because of the calming aesthetics of the game and the tension of tracing it back (once I learned what I had to do), only mildly tainted by some issues on the audio part (I will explain in detail later) and that maybe some small change when "entering the storm" (like a skybox change to something more cloudy or smth) would give it the final touch
  • What to say about Graphics; if you have consistency in assets and general design, Unreal is a very good option to get a good eye-catcher
  • For the final point, I got really distraught by the audio, mainly in the "calm" to "storm" changes, because when respawning after dying, the audio kept playing the "storm" music, which at the beggining made me start running without even activating the "storm" (also because the sound effect for the storm activating didn't work for like 50% of the cases). Appart from that, its necessary to mention that music was nicely fitting for the theme, and i would liked to see more sound effects for different actions in the game.

In general, to resume my opinion, this game only needs bug-fixing (obviously, this was made in a jam so everyone does what they can), some gameplay changes on the character movement/feeling, more feedback on the player actions and to give emphasis on the "calm-to-storm" change, and maybe one or two levels to make this a pretty solid game for any platform lover to have on their itch.io library.

Developer

Thank you so much for the in-depth analysis, we are aware of the things that needs fixing and also the improvements you mentioned were in our to-do list. We jsut a couple days more we could fixed everything! We already did with some of the things, we will release a fixed version when the jam voting ends :)

Awesome game! Beautiful, fits the theme 100%. I really liked the flying islands vibe from Zelda. Interesting map that makes you want to run around and look at everything.

I ran into two problems. The first is that I had a VERY hard time climbing the vertical columns. The character feels just out of control at those moments. I fell 100500 times. Second problem - some objects are too far apart and I couldn't jump from one to another when running away from a storm

Developer

Thank you for playing the game! Have you manged to beat the 3 levels anyway?

About the climb, yeah we need to tweak it a bit to make it feel even more nice to play!

Regarding the objects too far apart, remember there is always a way ;)

Submitted(+1)

I managed to get to the big glowing ball once and give it the souls I had managed to collect, and then the storm started and I had to run away and then I couldn't jump over the chasm

fun game here!!!

Developer

Thank you so much! Did you manage to beat all 3 levels? :)

My problem was with the controls - once your character starts moving in any direction, he doesn't really stop. I returned to the soul storm after the storm begun, but couldn't figure how to purify souls, maybe because i couldn't get all of them. Also i tried to climb the foilage walls, and it was the same as the regular ones. But good job with the visuals!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Mmm …do you you have a low end pc? because the movement thing you mentioned it is the first time that someone bring it up. Regarding the storm chase begins, you just have to reach the Soul Stone, if you do, you will be teleported to the next level!

Submitted(+1)

I have a laptop, but basically, yes, it isn't the one you choose to play unreal games on, and i chose "low", if it was about the graphics. And I wasn't teleported to anywhere.

Developer

Everyone we even got a full 50 min video from someone on Youtube that spontanously playtested the game! Awesome!

This game looks insane man. Very well done, im in love ^^

Really nice movement, it feels pretty polished. Very bulky for a game jam game though, but I understand that's what Unreal Engine does. Liked the game a lot, but it felt a bit repetitive, maybe new graphics would help? maybe power ups?

Developer

Thank you for playing the game! Yeah this game could be expanded, we had to scrap many ideas because we did not have enough time. Maybe one day we will expand on it :)

Submitted(+1)

i really loved the visuals and the music! at the start the parkour felt amazing too but after first level i stopped moving and stated sliding uncontrollably and with such amazing visuals a bigger FOV would have been awesome!! Overall great game!!

I played through all 3 levels.

The parkour mechanics work quite well.

Very impressive!

And cool atmosphere!

i wish you'd given me a level select menu though.

the thing I struggled with the most was that i couldn't make very small adjustments. like, let's say i stand on the bridge and i want to jump up and then tap left to position myself on the banister. i would fly over the banister.

one or two little bugs and here and there but don't feel like complaining. was just really impressed.

(first level when i triggered the cloud and then fell into the abyss, when I respawned the cloud wasn't there anymore and I couldn't finish the level. maybe i had to activate the temple again, can't remember now if i did.)

sometimes i would fall through a lotus pool.

ok maybe one criticism: the cloud's cartoony design broke with the lofty visual style a little bit. but it was very clear what i had to run from!

sound was good too! appreciated the music switching when altar was activated and the subtle sound effects.

also appreciated the ambitious level design. you made it so if a player wants  an extra challenge they can try and find all the dragonballs.

what i was most impressed with maybe was that the game always knew what platform to put me back on when I fell down.

bravo!

and despite being a UE5 game, u provided option so i could still play it on my potato pc!

Developer(+2)

Thank you a lot for the in depth comment! We are aware of most of this bugs and some more, sadly we spotted them in the last hour, same with UI we didn t manage to the to it until the last minute. We managed to optimize the code and enviroment to not have anything useless working on the tick and only necessary stuff so that the performance will be well on almost anything so that everyone can enjoy it.
I am glad that you liked!

Wow, this game is amazing! It looks stunning, fits the theme, the music compliments it, and the movement with the different mechanics feel great. Insane to think that this was all done in a week!

I only had time to beat 2 levels, but I will definitely be back after the voting ends!

Submitted(+2)

The movement felt really good, the graphics were great and the levels ran very well. This feels like a speedrun game, so adding a timer/recording best finishes would be really sick as well.

Developer

Thank you so much! We will add that once the jam finishes! :)

Submitted(+2)

Wow, stunning graphics and game design my dudes, it's hard to believed this game was made in just a week. The game play is awesome too!

Really fun to play actually, I think it has some great speed-run potential. Didn't find the last normal soul but got all the secret ones :)

Feedback:
- A simple timer would be nice so that people can challenge themselves if they want
- Sensitivity control :)
- The movement is over the top, and I love it for sure! Just needs a tiny bit more polish so it feels more consistent.

Developer

Thank you for playing the game and the precious feedbacks! Mouse sensitivity was on our roadmap but we did not make it in time for the submission deadline
