How does your game fit the theme?
You cook food for Zeus, who is the god of thunder.
also, the game builds up to a big boss fight in the end of the game, so the rest of the game is basically the 'calm before the storm"

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
yes, except for most of the sound effects, which we downloaded from pixabay.com.
everything else we made from scratch.

I couldn't make it past day 3 but I really enjoyed this game! The cooking is balanced in a tough but fair way  and I like the thing that happens if Zeus gets angry lol

Very nice cooking game! Like the twist that your character is feeling hunger as well! And those interactions with Zeus are cool!
Art is nice and do the job! Even dialogues are present which is a nice touch!

Some feedback:
- you can cook meat by placing two salt
- some textures are on top of the player which is not looking nice
- pixel size in pixel art mismatch is noticeble
- you can pick up meat and place it in oven and then pick up pizza dough... and then you can't do anything
- I though at first what you need to pick up food when it's ready... it seems it's not necessary as it appears in your hands immediately after cooking... realization of which helps with playthought but wasn't obvious and I'm not sure if this is intentional or not
- I'm not sure why you need to split the game on two screens... I think it would work in one screen better
- food recipies will help for new players... because at first it's just trial and error which not help in this game. It's not as bad as you get used to it though.
- text reveal on click in dialogues would be nice, not all people like to watch text appear animation
- show where and what you've put already can help for people with short memory as me

That was fun, idea is cool! I've spent fun time with it!
Thank you for this game!

God didn't appreciate my cooking :(

The player needs to be able to discard/drop the item they are holding, otherwise they can get softlocked

It gets quite a bit hard by level 3

Nice submission

Very cool and funny that Zeus is bulking. The game gets hard fast, day 3 was already brutal for me. I loved that you had hunger too, so you would just make a little snack on the side. It seemed that if the oven was already buffered with one item (let's say dough), and then you obtained another item (lets say lamb), you would effectively softlock yourself as you can't seem to put down obtained ingredients and can't clear the oven.

Regardless the game is creative, fun, and easy to understand!

Developer

thanks! but yea youre right, i didnt have time to make a trash can lmao 😭

gave me "Overcooked" vibes, I really like the art as well. the only issue I encountered was the oven working a bit malfunctional but it wasn't anything game breaking. nice work!

I can’t believe that this is the 2nd dining game based on the gods. Funny how you see that in game jams. I thought this was a cool flip on the overcooked dining style games where you have to also worry about your own hunger. good job

I really liked the graphics, though the gameplay felt a bit repetitive. Maybe you could add an extra mechanic? Like a mini-game for cooking the dishes or something else to mix it up. Still, I really enjoyed it!

nice cooking game, cool art style, interesting storm with a god throwing lightning at you hehe

Interesting concept! But it would have been nice to have more explanations about the gameplay during the game, because I had to figure out a lot of things for a long time. But I liked it! Good job!

nice, a cooking game, and also one with a pretty hilarious premise and context.

What I loved:

  • loved that you have both yourself and the god's hunger to appease, adds some strategy of - do I feel myself or him first!
  • I really loved that when u fail, u get to try your luck to survive by playing a minigame to dodge Zeus' thunderbolts! this is really cool and I think more games should have things like this where you get to fight for survival just before you really lose!

Potential improvements:

Here are some notes I wrote down while I was playing the game, which I think aren't any big issues really, just things that could make the user experience so much better!

  • There should be visual indication of what food you've inserted into each facility. especially for the merging table as that's when food recipes get complicated. Putting food on the table doesn't show up, and the table is empty which looks like a bug at first, even though it actually is registered.
  • I also think food recipes should be displayed on screen somewhere, eg a book on the floor that the player can move to and a popup appears that says A + B = C, C +D = E. (where the alphabets represent the foods of course). This way it doesn't force people to read and memorize as you progress through the stages.
  • Text animation is nice but a little slow. I think it should be 1 click to load the full sentence, and then second click to skip to next dialog, rather than the first click skipping instantly to the next dialog before it has fully loaded the sentence.

Overall, I loved the dialogs and the little bit of story sprinkled throughout, great game!

Developer

Thanks so much!

i agree with you on all the improvements,  i was debating with my buddy when we were making this if the recipes should be displayed in a recipe book or smth but he didnt like that idea so zeus just tells you how to cook.. but i agree with you, it woulve helped lmao

glad you enjoyed the game! :)

I was a little confused at first by the lack of UI on the kitchen instruments. But once I understood the principle it became fun ^^ The graphics are great and the twist in case of defeat is very cool :)

Bravo for this entry!

Developer

thanks! 😁

Interesting game concept. It seems polished but sometimes felt a little too unbalanced when tasked with feeding zeus and myself at the same time but that could be just a skillissue on my side. Also a music on background would help but still  and interesting game.

Developer(+1)

thank you!

yea i didnt have time to make music myself and i dont like using premade assests...

That was a fun game. I like the storm bit and the sound effects when your cooking. I think it would be helpful for the player to get some guidance on how to cook, how to pick up food and how to feed yourself. I like the Idea.

Developer

thanks!

on every single day zeus tells you how to cook, and to eat yourself theres a little popup, but i do agree it could be better.. i rushed it on the last day so thats why 😅

  • Game Design: ★★★★☆ The concept of cooking for Zeus is creative and aligns well with the theme. The gameplay loop is solid, though some small adjustments like ingredient management could enhance it further.
  • Fun: ★★★★☆ The game is fun, with a humorous take on cooking under pressure for a god. It could use more incentives, like power-ups, to keep players engaged.
  • Innovation: ★★★★☆ The idea of cooking for Zeus is a unique and fresh interpretation. Adding more layers, like roguelike mechanics, would take it even further.
  • Theme: ★★★★★ The game nails the theme with both literal (Zeus, god of thunder) and metaphorical (calm before the boss fight) interpretations.
  • Graphics: ★★★★☆ The pixel art style is charming and cohesive. The characters and food items are visually appealing and fit the tone of the game.
  • Audio: ★★★★☆ The sound design complements the game well, though improvements in variety or music could elevate the atmosphere.

A highly enjoyable and creative submission with lots of potential for future enhancements!

Also can you rate our game? THX!

Thank you so much, we really appreciate your comment!

I agree with you, in the begining we wanted to add literally all of what you said. with the roguelike mechanics & powerups... but it didnt work out with our time managment so we dropped it lmao

I'll try your game right now as well!
