Wow!!! This is probably the most detailed and best feedback for a game I’ve ever received.
I think you have a real gift for analyzing and testing games. You could be a consultant for indie developers. I’m not even joking, this is like the kind of feedback you normally have to pay someone for.
I dunno if you have a quality assurance or testing background. But wow this is such good feedback. Actually has motivated me to want to improve the game. I haven’t worked on it for a long time but you’ve really laid out so many things that can easily be improved with some tweaking.
But seriously this is your gift, I really think you could help developers make better games and even charge for it haha
if you get bored I got a new game I did for another gamejam
it’s another action incremental style game, I got the idea watching this movie on netflix called the last house, they did something calld chimney fishing so I made a game about it
https://w.run/barret/chimney-fisher
this kinda shows how crazy it can get in the end
I used it in my gamejam game about chimney fishing
you can play in your browser mobile or pc https://w.run/barret/chimney-fisher
⚠️ WARNING: THIS DEMONIC EXAM RUINED MY LIFE
I came here to casually smash a few boxes as a demon. Instead, I entered a psychological trap. Around box 4,000, my hands cramped up, my sanity shattered, and I turned into a manic factory foreman orchestrating a chaotic workforce of lazy goblins and unhinged void-rail carts.
The box crushing never stops; you just automate your way out of the manual labor. I have been clean and sober from this game for exactly 3 seconds, and I can still hear the furnaces.
10/10 would definitely smash
I’m not sure if I ever played a survivors like that you just control with the mouse? I feel like this is the next iteration. I also love how you shoot in the opposite direction that you are going? It’s like well yeah that makes sense, so from the beginning of the game you kinda feel powerful already.
Also you kept it simple with just one weapon, but you still feel powerful when you’re shooting like all 8 directions or however many fireballs it was. This was solid fun.
wow.. I thought I knew what incremental games were like, then you “flipped the table” on this one and everything is fully spawned and clearing the table is soooo satisfying. I had to play until the end. And the magnet ability making the coins inch closer just looked and felt so satisfying.
if you make this game into a full game I hope to play it. You could get crazy and have bigger and bigger tables or even change from coins to like clearing out a mall, clearing out an arena full of footballs or scocerballs. i dunno you could get crazy and go all katamari style where you keep zooming out to be able to pick up bigger and bigger items on new maps or something.
you really nailed down the dopamine drip perfectly. My game unfortunately was not well balanced or tested but yours was like perfection!!!!! so far it’s my fav game of the jam
omg haha, I played it again and I see how this game if you had more time could really be a fun puzzle game. Thank you for the hint. I realized the art style reminds me of he is coming. Something about the simple aesthetic is so pleasing. I feel the best kind of puzzle games are like this. super simple concept but then the game introduces new things slowly which you showed even with a few levels.
the look of this game is beautiful. I love the art direction. It’s a simple concept but very well executed and polished. I feel like this is one of those games you could expand on the core gameplay and do a full game with different types of rooms and mechanics for the sheep. But gosh darn, the sheep are so cute and so is the star so it almost feels wrong to sacrifice them haha.
the aesthetics were great. and I love the animation when the bomb blows up and you go flying haha. I didn’t beat the game, but the tension you feel with just having to do a few instructions under pressure was really cool. It felt great when I finally got the timing to flip the bomb and do the purple switch
thank you for the feedback and playing the game. I think I have done mostly game jams with less time, so I’m thinking oh I have enough time to do this, but in reality I should have probably cut the scope down to fine tune things, but I’m happy with the turn out regardless of things being broken and not as balanced as I would like, but I think i wanna continue to work on this one. I already fixed some of the stuff that got broken during development.
thank you for the kind words. The best part of the gamejam I realized was I think I enjoy the development of incremental style games just as much if not more than I do playing them. I tried to make one in a previous jam but I spent so much time on the gameplay that I barely got to do an upgrade tree so this time I kinda went in reverse and made sure the tree was good ( or at least better than what I had in my last jam game )
this was impressive for a jam game. I mean everything looked great, the humor was on point. Especially the email from the mom lol. I think I had the most fun with the humor of the game, which I’ll be honest in most games I always skip the reading, but since this game was all about reading I actually found it fun. And I loved the operating system look and feel. I hope more people play the game because it’s definitely one of the more unique takes I’ve seen for this game jam. Also cool to see a gamemaker game. I used godot this time around but I’ve used gamemaker a lot for previous jams and a long term game project I’m working on
thank you for playing. Some upgrades actually worked at one point but then got broken after the game progressed and I unfortunately didn’t get to play the game properly to realize they were now broken. And I think there was a few I added but forgot to implement b/c I was really wanting the tree to be fun and have lots of things. But I think somewhere along the line I lost track of my todo list in the wee midnight hours trying to get the game finished haha. I actually have worked a bit to fix some of the bugs so I’ll be doing a post jam update just b/c I had so much fun making the game. I learned a lot about scope creep through this game, like as in what not to do haha. I played this one incremental game called calorie count for the jam and they made a very small upgrade tree and I went and tried to do similar to a full on incremental game. I’m just thankful the game wasn’t totally broken by the tiem of submission.
and thanks for the comment on the minimalistic style. I’ve been playing around with the idea of using basically no assets other than emojis, of course I found out the hard way that the web version that didn’t work, but microsoft has this fluentd emoji assets you can use for free, the game merge maestro uses them which is how I learned about it. I wanted to see what’s possible with emojis and doing the ui without any sprites other than emojis.
at first I thought the platforms had a timer like they would go away completely, but then I realized the timer cycles them through size 0-3. Such a cool concept and the aesthetic to match with the gears. Its like a rage game precision platformer that actually feels pretty fair to be honest. I could hear mark browns voice speaking about the simplicity and beauty of the design haha.
