How does your piece use the motif?
I use it in the melody with the trumpet and very remixed with the saxophone

What tools did you use? (DAW, instruments, sample libraries, etc.)
FL Studio with SWAM instruments, PianoTeq, Addictive Drums, and MODO bass.

I made this in like 3 hours because I had very little time this weekend so It isn't my best work. I tried to experiment with volumes more in this.

Oooh it's so jazzy and swingy but kinda has a little danger to it, like the back entrance of an alley to a shady gang's underground casino!

Really like this one. Very ambitious and texturally very nice. My favorite part was the horn section stabs. One thing about jazz though, especially in this swing-like style, the piano rarely holds chords. Because the bass is holding down the core of the harmony with the walking bassline (the core being the root and quality) the pianos main role is to fill space and add extensions. This means that the piano usually plays quite rhythmically and doesn't have to fill out all the notes of the chord. The good news is that this unlocks a whole new world of voicings when the function of the chord isn't a priority.

This is like the second time I have done a jazz piece so I am unfamiliar with all the intricacies. Your input is very nice for future reference!

I really hope I’ll be able to study music theory and stuff like this because learning stuff like that is super interesting!

Jazz theory is super fun to learn and it can be applied to any genre or area of music. I've been studying it for around 2 years now and still have huge gaps in my knowledge.

If you plan on writing more jazz in the future, I would reccomend listening to some classic records and paying attention to what each instrument is doing. Just like any genre, that is the best way to learn how to write it. Listening. The classic Miles Davis quote is "You have to know the rules before you break them" and that is very true too.

I started listening to this and things indeed got jazzy, my furniture even started grooving like in a cartoon! I really like the panning in the horns too! Sound great, glad you were able to participate with even so little time!

I like the percussion a lot! The motif fits really well with the swing vibe you chose, reminds me of Grim Fandango and other point-and-click mystery games

I like the jazzy aspect to it. I don't find the role of the motif as important in the song; I think you stretched it a bit toofar. But I do like it. [Btw thanks for the feedback]

I didn't want the motif to be over the entire song because then it feels out of place IMO. Having unique sections outside of the motif is important to make the motif stand out is a key aspect of making the song flow nicely I think.

Can I ask what you mean by "stretched it a bit too far"? like is it the length of the song or something else? just wondering.

I was refering to the motif. I do agree with the fact that it's important to mess around with the motif and make it so that it benefits your song. I just meant you went a little bit too far. But I really enjoyed listening to the song.

Ah I see. Yes I did stretch it a bit far mostly because of the jazzy swing feel I went for. I wanted something that would stand out and I thought a swing rhythm would do the trick plus I wanted to practice writing swing more as well.
