I really like the vibe and look of this game. The game is also well-designed, though difficult! When the herons were onto me it felt exactly like running from the cops in GTA. VERY nice work!

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad that you had some fun with the game )

This is great game. It took me while to figure out how to start game. It would be great multiplier game for two like tricking storks or if someone messed up the other one will be croak to save situation which will put him in danger.

Developer

Thank you!

Huh! Great idea. I haven't thought about multiplayer at all!

Submitted(+1)

I am terrible at this game, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it.  Love the animations and sounds.  I wish it was a little easier at the beginning - those herons got me every time.  Still, this was fun, while I lasted.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing !

You don't manage to win? Try to jump precisely on lilypads - herons won't hear you. Hope you had some fun )

At first, I didn't fully get the concept and the alignment to the task... But once I knew (by reading the comments/description) that enemies are attracted to the croak position, that's perfect. Really awesome concept! ___ Two suggestions: making these rules/goal clearer ingame and make the game a little bit easier (by reducing the enemy range and making the frog get back quicker to a jumpable position). Very well done!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback!

Yeah, the enemy's behavior needs some reworking, 100%. And it would be great if rules of the game were completely clear through the gameplay itself, you are right!

Welcome in Discovery Channel! Beautiful graphics and interesting mechanics. I enjoyed the jumping and that frog finds the leaf even you missed a jump. Maybe those birds could be a bit slower, because it got very tense after croaking.

Developer

He-he, thank you!

Yeah, I will definitely tweak game difficulty after the jam (or in the next round). Glad, that you had fun )

What a nice little frogg... BIRDS! BIRDS! WAAHHHGHGHGH!

I liked this a lot.

Developer

Thank you ))) Glad you had fun )

Submitted(+1)

Those enemies are brutal :D one mistake and you get swarmed lol. Took me a few minutes and lots of deaths but finally managed to find a frogger friend. Overall pretty fun game, good job!

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you had some fun )

Love this game. Nailing the jumps is very rewarding!

Developer

Thank you! I'm very glad you had fun with the game )

Submitted(+1)

The concept is nice. I wish I could jump quicker when the enemies are close because I need to click first and then click again, maybe aim with mouse and charge jump wit a button.

Developer

Thank you for comment!

This type of controls is somewhat intentional ) I wanted the player to panic and miss clicked. It would be too easy to outrun herons in other way .  Nevertheless, speed does not matter much - accuracy does. One-two precise jumps (right on lilypad) make you win the game )

Submitted (1 edit)

I see. Maybe then make them not to one-shot you but rather the circle is yellow first and then you dead.

Developer

It is in the game already xD

When you are caught in a bird's circle (it turns red) , you have ~ 1s to jump away.

Submitted (1 edit)

I meant so it is not an instant dead when I'm in a circle already.
Maybe its me I didn't feel I have time to escape

Developer

hmmm, it's strange - it is not instant for me...

I'll check it after jam, thank you for feedback! )

Submitted(+1)

This was fun! It's really cute and surprisingly hard. I was able to get to the other frog by just doing max jumps constantly towards it while running away from the herons lol. I tried playing it I think the correct way for a bit, but I got caught by the birds so fast each time. Great work on this!

Developer

Thank you for playing !

It doesn't sound like great work for me if correct way is not working ) Birds lose you if you manage to do one-two precise jumps. If you jump past the lilypads there will be a splash sound cue - and herons will hear it.

I'll try to tweak birds behavior after jam to more satisfying.

Submitted(+1)

this is such a cute simple concept! This needs to be expanded more

Developer

Thank you for playing )

Actually, I don't know if I want to expand this game or make a new one in the next round. I kinda like it small ) The game definitely needs some tweaking and polish, but... we need to proceed to the next round and look for theme )

Submitted(+1)

very cute stealth concept. I hope to see more

Developer

Thank you! Glad you had fun)

Cool game! pretty hard and didnt really know what Iwas looking for but once I saw the other frog I found it. The mechanics work really well together and its a fun concept. For the herons it would be cool if there was some sort of indicator of where they are just so I could plan my next move.

I saw that they move based on where I made a sound last time maybe add some ripple in the water so its clear what spot they are attracted to.

Other than that very fun and good take on the concept!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback!

Yeah! Ripple in the water ! Thought about that, just forgot to add in haste. Definitely adding it postjam!

And about heron's position indicator - not so sure about that, I like the thrill of accidentally finding them)

Submitted(+1)

I was not ready for how intense this got for how cute the art is! 😅

I thought the mechanics were an interesting risk vs reward and worked well together. The first tim i played it felt way too hard, but as i gave it a few more goes and got into the swing of things it balanced out really nicley. it got to the point when i atracted the herons and managed to stealth away with perfect jumps I felt unstopable!

The mechanics were solidly implemented, it felt really nice to play and there was a lot of polish to things. The screens at the start and the win screen are so adorable.

I really enjoyed playign this and think it looks great, congrats on the submission and unique mechanics!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much !

Yeah, it can feel too hard, but the game is super short - so it is balanced )

I'm very glad that you had fun with the game.

Submitted(+1)

I really like the jumping system and how it's forgiving at the same time as it's not. The way all of the herons moved towards me didn't feel quite right, like if there's something missing but I can't fully put my finger on it. I did manage to beat it on my third try, cool game! We certainly have some similarities between our submissions :D

Developer

Oh, thank you!

Actually, each individual heron moves not to you, but to some random spot in a certain radius around the place you made sound last time. But maybe in a rush it is not always obvious (and it shouldn't be). I will look at that after jam )

On third try! You are better than me at my game!

About similarities. Yes, apparently, we have - top-down perspective, circling enemies and a charismatic main hero )

Submitted

I beat it by just spamming jump as fast as I could, not caring about if I missed it as I was too fast for them to catch me. You might want to re balance that if that isn't the intended playstyle.

Developer

Maybe you just nailed every jump? )

On the other hand, if you missed most of the jumps - it is not intended playstyle. But I was testing the game on that matter and never managed to run away from herons. So, I will certainly look at that, but for now, I think that you are just ultra lucky(or skilled:)

Submitted

But I went into the water, and then I got slid onto the lily pads afterwards. A couple of times I was inside the "red zone" of the herons but didn't get caught immediately, but that may be intended.

Developer(+2)

Add some comments to game description. Thank you for your feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Cute game! The controls are quite difficult at first, especially with how punishing the game is with mistakes. The art style is also lovely. Although, as much as I love your game, I don't feel like the jumping and croaking harmonize to advance the player. I'm not sure if this is true, but it feels like the frog friend and the herons don't actually spawn until you croak. The two mechanics are required individually, but they don't feel like they're working together. That being said, your game is still great, and I apologize if I get anything wrong. I apologize for being a bit blunt with my criticism, by the way ^^;

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Thank you for playing the game! No need to apologize, I like the questions that you ask )

And right - herons and frog-friend do not appear before your first croak. I did it this way to give players time to get used to jump controls.

I thought of game mechanics in this game that way:

Main mechanic - jumping; simple as that; you can't go far without jumping .

Secondary mechanic -croak (or more broadly, "make sound"). When you croak, you start seeing the direction in which you should jump. So croaking is required for progression but stays a secondary mechanic.

And for working together - it is even simpler - herons help with that. When you croak, you know the way, but you need to jump away from herons. And when you jump away, you may make mistakes, panic and forget where your friend is - so you need to croak again )

Hope you had some fun with the game nevertheless )

Cute, tough game, I was able to finish reading your comments below about the sound. Unfortunately, the frogs were 1 second from being eaten after being reunited. Great job.

Developer

Thank you! Maybe I should add those comments about the sound to the game page.

Don't worry about frogs - love prevails )

Submitted(+1)

It was very difficult!  As soon as you've found the right direction, multiple herons quickly attack from different directions.  There's quite a delay between when you're able to jump, so you have no chance.  This is fortunately easy to fix.  Also, the game idea isn't bad at all, so it's worth improving on.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for commenting !

Maybe it is not obvious, but herons react to sound. On croak and on water splashes, when a frog misses a lilypad. And when a frog misses a lilypad, it swims to the nearest one. While it swim, you cannot jump. Hence the delay. It is possible to never attract herons at all if you jump precisely) Difficulty of the games, how I see it, lies in the player panicking and missing jumps. It was intentional, but I don't want it to be so hard for players.

I hope your experience wasn't frustrating  (

Submitted(+1)

Don't worry about it.  Participating in lots of game jams has made me very forgiving of things like that.  I rate according to what I think the vision was, rather than getting hung up on minor issues.  I really liked your idea and am eager to see how it develops in further rounds.

Submitted(+1)

The tough but fun. The Herons were very tough to avoid, especially since by the time I knew where they were, it was almost always too late to do anything about it. Got to my friend by luck though. Fun and cute game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you )

Yeah, because of randomness in heron's behaviour, luck always involved ) Hope you had some fun with the game!

Submitted(+1)

Oh yeah, it's a fun game. The tough herons added to the feeling of danger.

Developer(+1)

I added some comments about the game to the description. Maybe it can help you to look at game difficulty with new eyes ) If you have time for that, of course!
