Ah hah I got it, the 49-stone was not a red herring in my case, I did not even notice it my first playthrough. I really liked the solution :)
I thought the inventor of 11 asked you to figure out how to use it. at this point in the game, in terms of effects other than "do this additional thing", you only have access to 7, and even if you don't have 100 energy, can easily get a glimpse/preview of what fusions will be like as smth to look forward to
