A perfect game! Tho I didn't find the monsters :P

Well done! It was fun figuring out the right rabbit!

Very simple but very effective in what it does. Like it a lot.

It's fun when one stray bullet leads to more and more. Managed to get the 2nd ending somehow ))

As the alternative ending correctly guessed, I was not happy about shooting the poor rabbits, monsters or not, and shooting a wrong one was the worst in particular. But I could see the humor of it as well. The controls and graphics & general feel of the game was perfect, playing to the end was not a chore, well done.

Wicked twist and fun gameplay! This is a solid game all around

Wow awesome game ! Original and the gamefeel is really cool. Congrats !

I LOVED this game!  Seriously, it was so good.  Great graphics, mechanics, sounds, music, characters, and story integration.  Honestly, it all felt so professional.  You even nailed the difficulty for a game jam - where it wasn't too challenging and I could move through the levels and enjoy the story.  Definitely one of my favorites so far!

That was pretty entertaining overall! I shot the wrong rabbit a few times early on before I noticed the subtle changes each rabbit can have. It made searching for the right rabbit a bit more engaging, but I sometimes had to explore each area a few times before finally coming across the right rabbit. Them being able to hide behind trees doesn't help, lol.

The monsters were not a threat at all, but for story reasons I decided not to blast every rabbit I could see to make the search easier :D

The ending was a bit weird. I unlocked the secret ending before knowing that there was a secret ending, so I didn't achieve that on my first playthrough. I assumed something would come out of the gate and chase me if I didn't hurry.

Overall I enjoyed my playthrough hunting wabbits, good stuff :D

Really good game with a great story. No notes on completing the theme and requirements of the round. I loved the everything about this game except having to shoot cute little rabbits.

Great game! felt a lil monotone after a while but the art and visuals, the story, demon bunny and the entire feel is amazing

Gah! Amazing game as always. Wonderful story, great art, compelling atmosphere.
Plus I loved the Throw a Punch reference at the end hehe

This game is so good, the story, animals and projectiles all fit together perfectly!
sad about the rabbits though :(

Only bug i encountered was that i got the alternative ending even without collecting the items, this was on a second playthrough so i assume a variable isnt being reset

Glad you like the game!

I actually left it that way so players don't have to collect stuff they've already collected. Since story-wise, you're in a loop experiencing the story over and over again, it kinda makes sense to me.

It also saved me a few lines of code, which I won't admit is the real reason I left it that way :)

Thats fair

I really like the setting and art of the game, it's a top down shooter where if you're systematic you will never have to run from anything. I did kind of forget to check the loot from the killed rabbits, but once the ending hit it did make perfect sense, while still being a plot twist, good job!
The game itself felt quite tedious though, and I would've closed it at level three if this wasn't a story round (many other people will miss the ending though). It worked well and felt interesting the first three levels but after that it didn't really bring anything new(could also be cause I didn't check the dropped of stuff, so I missed a bit of story there). Especially the increased search area made it feel very slow. That being said, the slow nature of the game also fits into the narrative, with this being your "day to day job".

The game would've been perfect if there was 3 levels instead of five, so well done!

Yeah, I made up my mind about the 5 days way too early and just stopped thinking about it after that.

I originally had plans for gameplay changes for each day, but never got around to making them.

There are still small bits of text info you can find though. The stuff you collect from rabbits and the text that pops up when you check the paper bag changes each day, all hinting at the ending reveal.

The gameplay is definitely a bit dull. But I feel like shooting the rabbits shouldn't feel too exciting, given the story's purpose. I originally wanted to add an ending where you shoot too many rabbits for no reason. The game definitely needs more horror elements to make it more interesting. But I got really burned out and couldn't add anything else.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

Something cleaver I noticed once while playing is that due to the shotgun spraying, you can accidentally hit a rabbit even if you did shoot the correct one. I actually liked this interaction. I wonder if you could've made it so that at one point you're aiming at the right rabbit, but your aim twitches when you shoot, setting off a larger fight. (this could be the main character having subconscious second thoughts about killing all these (innocent?) people.)

Developer

Yes, there are supposed to be innocent. Hence, they are viewed as rabbits.

Very interesting idea, I will definitely consider it if I continue to develop this game.

Submitted

Oh yes of course! I the connection with rabbits and innocence didn't hit me before somehow

Let me start with the positive - the art and atmosphere are gorgeous. The story was fairly engaging and kept me playing. That being said, the game didn't really come together for me. This is probably a personal thing, but I felt kind of bored throughout the whole game. First of all, the gameplay was pretty repetitive and menial. I think that expanding the map wasn't a great choice as it just increased the tedium of finding the right rabbits, maybe having more variations or rabbits that look more similar to one another, to make it more risky to play. I think having a menial task like this as the main game loop could serve as a great vessel for horror but my other issue was that the game wasn't scary, and I think there's a lot of reasons why. Firstly there's no actual indication that you are in danger. The music is still calm and the vibes are still immaculate. There was at least one moment where there was a monster chasing me and I didn't notice. Having some adaptive music, maybe a tint on the screen or a vignette would have gone a long way. The other thing is that the monsters are complete nonthreats. I don't think I got hit once over both my playthroughs (during the jam and right now). They are way slower than the player, and not only that but shooting knocks them back and stuns them. Something I did in my first round game was have the monster increase slowly in speed, creating moments on tension where they're close but then you pull ahead but then they start getting closer. This forces you to get out of danger as quickly as possible too. Finally, there's never a moment where you are actually forced into danger. If you are just careful while playing, even if you don't know to avoid them, you might not encounter a single threat.

This feedback may come across as overly critical or negative but I think that's because I genuinely wanted to love this game. I thought that it looked amazing, and found the ideas behind it and it's story incredibly compelling. This game was very polished and did a great job incorporating individual elements, they just didn't come together for me.

Developer

All of that is pretty fair criticism. Originally, I wanted to make some changes to your journal every day like “paper please” so you would be more likely to make mistakes. I also wanted to make a perfect ending where you make no mistakes and collect all items. These two ideas were quite conflicting, so I eventually didn't add either of them.

I wanted to add more horror elements. Unfortunately, I got really burned out just finishing the story part and the game loops, so I couldn't add more.

Regarding the difficulty, I always prefer to be on the easier side. Especially since this is a story-focused round, I was afraid that some people might not see the ending if it was too difficult.

Thank you for writing so much about my game. I really appreciate your feedback.

I loved this. The story was nice too.

Also, any vegans here?

I love this. Good story, simple mechanics but perfectly for the task. 5/5 gj!

Definitely top 10. Great work!!!

I think I got the bad ending hahaha

Got to be up there with the best games of this jam. Great job with the atmosphere and overall story. Shooting mechanics felt crisp and you the way interpreted this rounds task was very clever (animal crucial to gameplay). Fantastic job!
