I enjoyed playing this! I didn't mind the sideways text and gameplay, but it was a bit fast, especially the transition from the text to actually playing. Nice game!
I think the idea of a early 00s rhythm game is really neat! I really appreciated the minimalistic approach of a single channel for melodies. I think I would've liked to see a countdown for the songs, and the text scrolled way too fast for me to read it. That said, I think commitment is the key quality here! It's incredible you went ahead and made a guitar hero-like in such restraints.
What unlocks the locked menu option? I think I saw a heart on both songs. I'm curious!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
The speed needs work, but in the finished game, you would've needed to play the first part over and over again, as if you fail it would throw you back to the absolute start.
The locked option cannot be unlocked as of right now. The original idea was to create a horrible faux branded mode called PlayAlong(TM), where you would need to sync the music on an external device
Basically the mode would've had chords, and it would've said "press play on Walkman" at the start. I personally kinda like this idea, since it reeks of some stunt a real dev of the period would've pulled.
It is not impossible that it will be implemented, although if we expand the game I personally would really like a 176x220 W800 style game, since in my view that was the golden era of mobile gaming. The melodies would then be midi renditions.
I'm totally bad at these kinds of games, but I love the look of the game, and the melodies sound great.
NIce game, kind of confusing with the sideways text and game but overall pretty nice :D
Good game, I would like to see its evolution
The sideways music scroll feels very uncomfortable for me. I guess I'm used to guitar hero. I beat both levels by spamming the strum bar (turns out you can win by holding all three buttons and spamming strum). I'm not sure what this has to do with grinding. You are using more than 2 colors with your text, next time turn off anti-aliasing. The intro text-scroll is also a little too fast to read at that size text.
Cool start.
