It looks like we have another Game Maker developer here! We’re already three so far, haha, that’s great.

I found the mechanics of your game very interesting (and extremely difficult to control). I’ll admit, it took me a considerable amount of time to finally get the hang of how things work. From what I can tell, the difficulty comes from the speed increment, which happens very quickly, causing the player to lose control in just a few seconds. To address or lessen this issue, it would be helpful if there was a way to fly backward using the S key, reducing the speed and thereby giving the player more control.

I really liked the text effect on the main screen – it’s very beautiful. The only suggestion I’d make in this regard is to reduce the brightness of the font a little. I felt it was a bit too intense for my eyes, but it’s not a huge problem since it lasts only for a brief moment.

The idea of rotating the screen in a loop was also really creative, something that genuinely caught me by surprise in a pleasant way. I don’t think the movement is too fast to cause dizziness in just a few seconds, but after playing for a while, it’s possible that the player might at least experience slightly blurred vision. To fix this, I think it would be a good idea to move only the obstacles instead of all the elements like the ground and obstacles. This way, the ground stays fixed, giving the eyes a place to rest.

In each level, it’s noticeable that the music cuts off at a certain point and then starts again, but as far as I noticed, it’s always the same track. It would be nice if the music played continuously without interruptions until a special moment breaks it, like a final level with a different objective or even a boss fight.

The art of the game is simple but very beautiful. I also really liked the particle effects when the player is destroyed – it truly gives the feeling of being disintegrated. The lighting also blends very well with the environment, making everything more harmonious and interesting to look at. Great job on that!

Congratulations on the game, it’s fun and challenging. I wish you the best of luck in the jam!

A challenging Asteroids variant!😄

This was quite a tough game. I crashed into plenty of walls and saw my ship explode more times than I’d like to admit! 😄 I’m sure that’s part of the challenge, but a slightly less steep learning curve would’ve been welcome for me—apparently, I’m not the best at this kind of game!

That said, once I got the hang of it, it became fun to try and beat the levels and navigate my way out of the maze. I didn’t clear too many levels, but what I did see looked good with solid pixel art, and the upbeat 8-bit style music really added to the energy.

The controls were tricky but clearly part of the intended challenge.

The theme was present—check!

All in all, a solid and fun jam entry! 🚀🕹️🔥 Keep going!

Good job. It's a fun concept and nicely arranged. I'm not sure having dead-ends helps the experience. It's exasperating to patiently navigate the obstacles only to find you got unlucky and took the wrong path. Especially when there is zero tolerance for touching obstacles. For me, it undermines the arcade-ish feeling of the game to have simultaneous demands to both perform skillful movements and explore the level.

Really fun. It challenges your patience and maneuvering skills. The music makes it so exciting. Literally a loop that you need to escape. This would be so much fun as a multiplayer game and with more arcade modes to choose from with different tweaks or twists to them. There's always room for improvement such as settings to make the music a little less loud. Great job with game!

Very cool game! Maybe a bit too difficult for me, but the music, SFX, and physics are very well polished !

This is a challenging one. Nice soundtrack

First of all, I summited a comment for a different game here yesterday. It's fixed now :)

As for YOUR game- I liked it a lot. Didn't finish- I'm at the 4th level, and unfortunately, have to go, but I'll return to this one!

I really like the tight controls! If it weren't for them this game might feel unfairly difficult. And I mean, it was difficult, but it felt fair :)

Keep up the good work!

Great idea, I like it!!

It was very hard, I was smashing the keyboard in frustration every time I died, but I did manage to make it to the end. Very fun, with huge speedrunning potential, especially with the level speeding up and forcing you to go faster. Very good design!

One thing I must point out though, the theme was a bit lacking. You're not really breaking anything, other than your keyboard of course.

Funny one, I like that the handling and the inertia we keep, that would be funny to see a speedrun of this game haha
I'm just not sure if I completely understood the speed thing in the top left, I saw that it changes a kind of gravity force but didn't fully understand it

The speedrun of this game could bring some surprises.

In the game, it feels like there is gravity, but it's actually just the level rotating, and the speed is determined by the level's rotation.

Found the game quite challenging, but I think its the level of difficulty you can expect from a game like this. Music, colors and patterns fit perfectly.

Good work!

The mechanics are really hard to master but quite rewarding once you get the hang of them! Due to this, I didn't get too far in the game, but from what I've seen, it looks pretty polished and complete. Well done!

The mechanic is quite difficult to master, especially with the rotating maze being a big distraction. At times, it felt like the player built up a lot of speed even with minimal input, making control unpredictable. Even after improving, the game remained really challenging. The player doesn’t have many controls beyond boosting, which limits movement options.

That being said, the art and overall design fit well, and the sound and music are really nice! However, there isn’t really a 'new' mechanic, and I struggled to see the connection to the 'breaking the loop' theme. Still, it’s a well-made game—nicely done!

Developer

Thanks for your comment and I respect your opinion, but design is not just the main idea; it's everything. If you look closely, it's not literally a clone of Asteroids, it's something more, or at least in my opinion. The idea was conceived in the first 24 hours of the jam, thinking about the concept of a loop, and I believe that passing through the maze somehow represents breaking the loop. It’s true that it’s far from the theme, as other participants have achieved.

I think you got the comment on the wrong submission hahaha

This is great work. At first, I thought the game mechanics were too difficult. I spent a lot of time failing on Level 1. But after few minutes of playing, the mechanics became easier and easier to control. I completed all 5 levels in about 15 minutes or so with the most time spent on Level 1. The fact the game feels like it is getting easier while the levels are getting more complex is very rewarding for a player. If you ever introduce a "hard mode", consider a limited fuel supply and the player could approach the levels like a puzzle.

For the art, I think the maze structure is the biggest weakness. Since it is the what the player is looking at the most, it would benefit if there was a little more detail. All the other assets, the ship, asteroid, lasers, and turrets are all top notch in my book.

While the music and sound effects are good. I would prefer if either the game was not so loud or if I had the option to turn down the volume. I think I had to turn my system volume down to about 25-30%. The music is a little pitchy (a lot of high notes) and may have been a little overpowering compared to the sound effects.

Overall, I think this is great game and gives a lot of credit to physics-based games.

So I'm just going to rate every category with some comments to it.

Gameplay: The gameplay has a bit of a problem. Sometimes it felt like the player built up a lot of speed even though you gave only a bit of input. This results in the "fast-paced" gameplay actually being slow-paced because you need to watch your speed constantly. Even after some while after getting better at it, it still results in you watching your speed, or at least on my side :p

Art: Good art style, even though it got repetitive after some time.

Sound: Sound and music fitted well to the atmosphere and style of the game.

Innovation: It's, like I said, a classic game, where you rotate around the level to get to the end. Some level-design ideas added some touch to it, though.

Theme: Apart from the player being in a rotating maze, there isn't a lot of a "loop". It is there, but not in a big way.

There is a classic game called Asteroids that is controlled in exactly the same way and had some success.

Ahh I see. I definitely get the direction the game is going now with this type of gameplay :)
