Very, very nice entry. I had a blast playing this. It satisfies all criteria in this round’s rubric. Only small thing I noticed is that there is a bug (lol, all the enemies are bugs) where something that I cannot see kills me. It happened a few times in the level where you start in the bottom right and there are two worms and a bee right above you. Still, a great entry.

Very good game! All elements of Gain Ground are in place, I liked the variability of characters and that the doggy can destroy stones, like in the last round)

This was solid! I dont really have remarks, if im extremely nitpicking i could say that I found it hard to see when I was overheating since I was paying attention to that but besides that I really have no feedback, its great fits the theme and criteria. Good job!

Great job with this one! The sfx and music were super crunchy and cool. There was so much juice and it just felt great to play. I loved how different each of the characters played, I found myself using completely different strategies with each one, which I can't really say for many other games in the jam. The UI was suitable, there was so much polish and juice and it was a great time, so nice job!

Anything that reminds me of Nuclear Throne is a good game by default :D

And a good time was had by all until they were killed repeatedly by bees.

Really great job. Definitely one of my favorites this round.

Developer

Yeah, I think I made the bees a bit too strong :O

Great take on the original mixed with your game. The action was fast and challenging and you included core elements from Gain Ground. Everything was top notch, well done!

I like how I can "cheat" on the score by clearing the level near the exit and then get the character through for some extra points :D

Great job with game balance (though I couldn't finish... but I think I was close :D). I also liked how you designed some levels that you can actually use the layout to defeat the enemies (with separating the area with the stones so you can open it, lure the enemy one way and go through a different route, though sometimes the enemies seem to get stuck there)

Very cute characters :D Cool overheat mechanics! Awesome work overall!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback :) You were really close, there was only one more level at the end, that was even harder. I think the bees are a bit too strong. Also the later layouts are really rushed. Thats probably why your run ended with the enemies spawncamping you :/
Thank you for recording your gameplay. Thats really helpful <3

This was such a great way to recreate the original game. I can't think of any notes other than you can still exit while the scene transitions to squeeze out an extra 100 points. I don't think it's a bad thing since it adds a little to the strategy, but super fun game.

That was fun! Heat management is a nice game mechanic, especially combined with the time limit and the exit portal. Rushing to the portal while blasting as much as you can could be a viable tactic for speedrunning.

Great job!

A really good game, I liked everything about it. The 4 characters had great attacks, movement felt good and the visuals were really nice. The only thing I can think of to enhance it further would be to have a blast that pushes the enemies away when the new character comes in

Is it procedurally generated???

I love how all the characters have their own personalities and playstyles. Beautiful use of Kenny assets, and your own personal art blends perfectly in there.

My only criticism would be that the timer is still counting down during the character selection screen. I would have appreciated the time to breath between rounds while picking my character (it's not going to lose you any points tho)

I love how you carried over the destructible terrain from your earlier submissions. It's still as satisfying as ever.

Amazing work. Super impressed.

THE DIG DEEPIVERSE CONTINUESSS

Id love to see all these characters in the original game too

I almost wanna see a Gain Ground variation that is a bit more faithful to Dig Deep even, being even more mining focused, but still, had a great time

UI, art style, and sound design are all very great. I love that you incorporate the game mechanic from previous round. The overheat mechanism is interesting, but I feel like the bar went up a little bit too fast. Other than that, the game is amazing.

LOVE THE ART!!!, i think having only 1 char at the start would be better but thats an EXTREMELY small nitpick, its very polished and really cool!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I do agree, that would have been better in hindsight :D

Very consistent game, consistent graphics, consistent audio. I like the single screen scope of it.

After a bunch of levels the level variety started to feel a bit repetitive where only the amount of enemies would change a bit. (Not sure if in later levels there would be more variety but I only got to the annoying shooting wasps/bees)

Just a small game design idea; it could be cool to not start with all the characters, then you can unlock some characters in some levels and you are forced to go out of your way a bit, for example you could make a character locked behind a bunch of stones you first have to dig through. Then you can gradually learn all the characters and their attacks. And that will make it feel more painful to lose them.

I think something is going wrong in your leaderboard code at start up, it does not show the scores on the main menu but when I check the network tab I see the request successful. Everything seemed to work when I went gameover so I guess that is the most important part.

I managed to get to the top of the leaderboard for now but I'm sure someone else will beat me as I did not even make it through all the levels. I had fun playing your game. 🌟 (Please let me know when someone overtakes me so I can retry πŸ˜…)

Developer

Thank you for the great fedback. I do agree, that the rooms start to feel repetetive, and i can also understand that you find the bees annoying xD Unfortunetly that are the only 2 enemy types i got to implement.
I love your idea, that the characters are unlockable in the levels, that would also be really easy to implement into my current code.
Thats weird with the leaderboard, maybe it has something to do with a initial loadup of the game, because i just tried it, and my leaderboard got loaded.
And by the way, your first place just got taken away :D
