That is a neat idea/spin on the task. The visuals were suprisingly fitting for the theme you set. I would have made the rain fall a bit faster, because right now, when i move straight down, im as fast as the rain falling, which looks a bit odd. Still a nice job overall :)

Such a cool idea to use audio to guide the player, great atmosphere too. I found the house rather quickly, so then I could just walk around listening for that audio que instead (it was at the bottom edge of the forest, so I knew I had to go downwards). Making the map wrap around instead would been interesting! Also, I wished that the game had the instruction within, it would've made it easier to give you UI points.
VERY atmospheric game. I like it.
Very unusual interpretation of the round theme, I approve )
I did not fully read your description and didnt see that you didnt add enemies lol, I was on edge the entire time. For feedback:
Fun: It was fun, it did miss some elements but then again your audio did make up for a lot of things, the house was a bit anti climactic I feel like if youd add some sort of fire just beside the map or burning trees and added the story of finding your friends to escape it would be really cool. The idea you had is better but since you didnt have time I feel like a bit more story instead of more mechanics wouldve made it even more fun.
Core elements: I really like this spin and like I said also the idea. The save your friends is just perfect and very creative! Maybe some different silhouetes (idk how to spell sorry) wouldve made it bit more engaging but you did perfect for the criteria!
Polished: I did see some mistakes in the art, the left corner some trees were off and then also the feeling of some content missing. But the content that you had was amazing
Audio: You nailed it, like i said at the start I didnt read your description so I did not know there werent enemies and I was genuinly scared to whistle lol. This feeling can only be made by a great combo on audio and design so you nailed it!
UI: Ui was good no real remarks here, only thing I can think of is having the character swap in the middle of the screen could be bothersome if youre getting chased.
I really like this idea and I do wish you could finish it! Good job!
Probably one of the most interesting takes I've seen. I LOVE the idea behind it and think it could be expanded upon so well. What if there's a monster that you have to manage 4 people running away from? What if it whistles too and tries to lure you to it? I'd imagine these ideas were probably there but didn't have time to get implemented but I would love to see an expanded version. I thought the audio design was great except maybe the house at the end was a bit rough. The core elements of the original were there although I do wish the characters were slightly different, maybe even just with different whistles or something. Overall though, one of the most interesting takes so far so great job!
Super glad you enjoyed it. I feel good about this game overall but frustrated as I know it was one or two steps away from being more than just an interesting idea. The house at the end was a very last minute addition, I finished work with about 30 minutes left and added that in (along with the janky audio) so that there would be an ending to the game. Thank you for the kind words and thank you for playing.
Very atmospheric :)
I'm really loving how people are creating so many interesting takes on GG. Good Job :)
Took me a bit of time to figure out the game mechanics :)
I like how you interpreted the theme! The game feels very atmospheric and unique! And I like the audio mechanics that you implemented to find all party members.
Very nice horror experience :)
One thing I've noticed - is the rainfall goes with the player if you walk down.
I would've also added some unique elements and different kinds of trees on the map because that would help to orient and figure out where everyone is.
Great work :)
I really liked the idea of having to find your party and banding them together before you try and find the exit. TBH I didn't read description so I had no idea about the whistling mechanic, I just had all my characters run to the top left of the map before I grouped them up. I liked how you used sound here as a gameplay element both with the whistle and with the cabin. Lovely atmosphere, if there was a bit more to this game I could see it doing very well in the indie horror crowd.
Kudos, great work.
Very atmospheric, and definitely one of the more unique games this round. I can understand why you feel it is incomplete, and I agree that another gameplay element would really spice things up. Having to hide from an enemy would be great, I think. But even without that, it's a solid experience already. Great job :D
I thought I heard you say this game was incomplete? Idk what you're looking at, but I'm playing a fully finished game. 10/10 great job. The only nitpick I have is that I wish there was a monster that can hear the whistle or something. The atmosphere was set up so well, I was waiting for that little bit of payoff. I honestly got jumpscared by the house a little since the music changed.
Other than that one tiny tiny thing, I aspire to make a game like this someday.
It's funny you should say that because that was exactly what I had planned, but I didn't have the time to put it in! The monsters were going to be doppelgangers who could do fake whistles/stalk based on hearing your whistles. Also, the house at the end is very janky audio wise (which is annoying because I think the rest of the audio is really good) I sacrificed the audio perfection I was going for with 30 minutes to go so that I could have an ending to the game. I was literally chopping up that audio clip on audacity with about 5 minutes to go, so that is a bit off you're right. You're far too kind, thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed it :)
The audio is excellent. I particularly like how when you are near the house it changes volume in each earphone to give spatial awareness. I'm curious, how does the whistling mechanic work to help find the other people? I didn't end up using it too much but it sounded great and I was still able to gather them together by getting them all to move towards a corner. Perhaps a system where a single whistle elicits a different whistle response from the nearest character could be a way of doing it. Being able to switch between 4 characters was great. I think if they had something a little different from each other it could be better, like a different colour or wearing different types of hats or different body builds. The way up to 4 people follow each other is really impressive and definitely an improvement on the original, it worked flawlessly and looked cool
The whistle mechanic works in same way as how it worked with the house at the end, if you get in range of hearing the whistle, it can guide you straight to the player. You found a way to bypass that through the bounds of the map :P. There was alot missing in terms of what I wanted the final product to be, I over scoped and spent far too long on the follow system, which I'm glad you appreciated as it was alot of work to get right. I had intended on making the map somehow endless, but I haven't quite figured out the best way to achieve this. I also really wanted to add in some enemies. Sadly alot got cut so I could submit something I was semi happy with. Glad you enjoyed the audio :)
OMG i did not expect a thriller type game in this round, but I LOVE IT!!
The feeling of tension is perfect, and even though the concept is a slight departure from Gain Ground, I cant help but love how novel it is, and audio was done masterfully as a gameplay element
I'm pleased you enjoyed it. It was a bit of a departure from gain ground, I tried to reimagine the mechanics in a different setting (multiple characters, a follow system, an exit point) I did have enemies planned and I was going to add a timer. All got a bit much for me in the end though. I am super glad you liked it though, thank you for playing!
Really great take on the original. Loved the atmosphere and the locating of the others.
The gameplay felt a little light, but the experience was tight and well done.
This atmosphere is great, did not expect anyone to submit a scary game based on gain ground for this round, great execution.
Nice short experience 🌟
Great atmosphere from the whistle music and the sound effects. The title screen looks amazing, and I really like this game's art style. The whistle system to find other characters is great. I wish the characters had some distinctive abilities so there would be more variety.
Still, great job.
