This reminds me of this arcade game called Lethal Enforcers 3.
I enjoyed the way that you combined the retro arcade aesthetic with a visual scaling mechanic! It made for a very interesting playthrough of the game.
I did find it easy to get blindsided by some of the projectiles, especially without much way to aim around independent of movement. Otherwise, it was generally easy to pick up on where bullets were, proximity-wise.
Also, the idea of fairies getting guns had a good combination of serious and funny that I liked a lot. Well done on this game! ^.^
Pretty nice arcade feeling. The scaling effect is pretty neat (I'm biased because we did something similar in our entry, lol). I like the art. Like Medal says, I think the shooting & reloading mechanic could have more involvement in the game. Maybe you can get a speed bonus for every enemy you take down, and you could have a small QTE to reload each bullet faster. I also think it would be good if headshots had a damage bonus. Lastly, all this is missing is a 2-player mode, haha. Nice work.
It's pretty neat, retro feels!
A mix of a rail shooter and one of those first person shooters where you point your gun at criminals while sparing innocents.
The gameplay concept though, it kinda... shoots itself in the foot? Somehow I didn't see much point in shooting and stopping to reload if you can just run past enemies and around bullets, so that you can outrun your partner. Whether I was hit or I "didn't play as the game intended", I just didn't feel any penalty for that - I'm not sure if that's what you wanted for the game.
It doesn't help that I feel like spellcards don't help that much - I had run over innocents with Meiling's spellcard, and Sakuya's spellcard accomplished nothing much for me?
(I don't quite understand what Sakuya's actually does, though I did somehow snipe innocents that were probably too far for me to even see lol)
That said, the gameplay feels fine and very responsive, I did feel like an action protag while playing the game, bang bang bang!
I also appreciate the balance given to the partner - I was worried I'd be outdistanced by stopping to reload, but it turns out it's fine. I also noticed there's rubberbanding on the partner, good thought. (If you're wondering, I spent an entire game as a pure pacifist lol)
The style is so nice too!
Fun and the lore goes extremely hard. little bit janky but lovely game.
Two may imagine what Touhou could be, if ZUN were to localize the series to Western audiences. I am that guy. I imagined it. And now, so did raykeju. Thanks for helping expand my head (tiny) canon, mate! Will gladly chew on this later as I move on through the boring parts of life.
The game jame theme feels a bit snuck in here, but that’s probably related to the ‘tiny canon’ incident currently going on. I reckon the culprit is hiding some of the scale related stuff for some very dubious reasons! Maybe to afford all those ‘tiny canon’s.
Also, smart move to make the ammo count be 16. I noticed the reference. (For those that missed it, 15+1, as in, an addition to Touhou Fan Game Jame 15. Indeed, very clever.)
All in all, the game deserves a rating of a bunch celebratory ‘tiny canon’ shots in the air… /15.
Won’t deliberate from which canon.
