Very nice and original entry, the art is also really cute, especially the little gnomes.

lovely little game! the art style is very cute. I like the plant sounds when plating or poking around. stealing hats is really funny, especially when spammed as the poor little guy’s hat goes wild. I kept accidentally holding the mouse button when picking up seeds, which caused them to be immediately planted, so I think the controls could use some improvement. there’s not much gameplay, but what’s there is quite enjoyable and satisfying — sweet entry!
OMG, such a good-looking game, it’s so cute, and satisfying to grow the plants. The sounds are great, the game feels quite complete! I’m not sure what’s the “end game” but it was fun! I enjoyed building my gnhome
Very cute cozy game. I love the art style, it looks great and fits the cozy vibe. I like the mechanics of growing the different plants, but I wish there was a bit more depth or strategy to the gameplay. Fun game, great work!
Great entry! Amazing art style and fun growing mechanic. I think some kind of shop with upgrades/new seeds etc that you could buy for harvested plants would add more fun. Anyway i really enjoyed it!
I like the art and the combination of 2D and 3D, although I would like the 3D background to be more lively.
I think I didn't play as intended, because I just held down the mouse button and slice the orbs, sometimes stopping to knock off the hats. So the gnomes house looked a bit chaotic in the end.
Thank you for playing and the feedback! We have been talking about what to do with the 3D background to make it more lively, but also not distract from the center stage.
Honestly we didn’t want a prescribed way to play. Towards the end that was how I was playing because it was the best way to watch edge case bugs :)
Fun clicky game. Relaxing with nice art. I see in the comments you want to keep working on it and I think that's a good idea. This could go quite a bit further. Nice work!
Charming game. Loved that you could knock the hats off gnomes' heads lol. Liked the 2D+3D combo! I didn't really know what I was doing so I ended up just placing plants and clicking stuff, and that was pretty fun. The tree at the center somehow started growing after I almost killed it in my first run! But it quickly got lost as it was obscured by all the other plants.
Once you build a sufficiently sized garden a genre-shift occurs and you are now conducting a plant orchestra. Very good. Panning the camera with RMB would have been nice. I had fun and really liked the visuals.
The art is superb! It was delightful to watch the plants and mushrooms grow. I like the idea of plants organizing themselves into groups and conglomerations. While concentrated on gardening, I didn’t notice if gnomes were doing something or just rambling around, but it was intriguing to watch them nonetheless.
Thank you for the comments! The gnomes are actually necessary to have the plants progress to the next stage, but it is unclear and there isn’t a visual effect that that happens right now. They just walk over to plants that are “ready”. Hoping to add that in an update as we had a lot of fun with this project and want to continue it post Jam.
Love the concept, and the game art is amazing !! Well done ! :)
Thank you for the feedback! In play testing we noticed that if you don’t evenly plant all the plants the odds of getting a seed from the plant that doesn’t have a lot goes down dramatically and didn’t have a chance to address it. We were thinking of giving alternative ways to get seeds, or just have every seed have a 3rd of a chance to produce any of the plants vs just produce seeds of themselves.
You aren’t the only one who has mentioned supporting more camera control with the mouse. I’ll be investigating for post Jam!
Cool aesthetic - reminds me of Don't Starve, but cozy :). Mixing of 3D and 2D looks great, I can already see how the game can be expanded to become a relaxing city (or, rather, stump?) builder. My only complain is that there is a little to no delay between picking up a seed, and planting it
Thank you for the kind words and saying what you felt was missing. Our goal with the plant sounds at least was it to feel like you were making music as you clicked or the gnomes interacted and I think we need to do a bit more to really hit that. Or were you talking more about the background sounds?
For the camera pan-dragging was that because you wanted to see more of the forest away from the stump? Or would you want to be able to zoom in to parts and then pan around?
RE Plant sounds: I just played it again to make sure I was remembering correctly, at time they felt musical, but as you build up, there would be a double noises (I think my mouse is starting to die and miss click, but still) so having to small an interval between the notes didn’t sound good.
RE right click: I just meant instead of the buttons or Q/E, right clicking to orbit like a turn table.
And in replaying was reminded of another thought I had, I wonder if there’s a way to get the sprites to better transition. Since the player can orbit, you can have a large object initially obscuring a smaller one until enough rotation has happened that the smaller one is now in front. I’m wondering if using proximity fade in the shader could let them smoothing blend into each other. This is just my tech art brain over scrutinizing so feel free to ignore me.
I loved the idea of a mini ecosystem involving magical creatures.
At first I didn't understand the decision between mixing 3D and 2D, but I think it worked well to rotate the camera and be able to see all the spaces in the scene.
In a full version, I would love to have plants with synergy between them, encouraging the player to mix them in creative ways.
I found the sound of the rain a little out of place, it didn't bother me, but perhaps a forest sound (just leaves, wind and small animals) would fit better.
Congratulations on the entry, I really liked it!
Edit: I wish I could post a screenshot of my gnomes home here, but seems like itch blocks it ☹
Thank you for the detailed comments! We went back and forth on the 2d/3d things and honestly our artist made everything in 2d and then started making things in 3d 😆. Not completely efficient but was nice to be able to see what we liked and didn’t about the differences.
I agree we need more player choices and mixing plants is one. We thought about making new species, or having different combinations attract different wildlife that could visit and the gnomes could interact with. This is our first idea that really feels very extensible and scope kept getting thought about and then needing to be cut.
For the screenshot I noticed Itch has a mb limit to what you can upload. I think it might be 3mb, maybe you can post a lower resolution image?
Super chill vibes, I kept killing my little tree in the middle though which made me slightly sad idk if I was just spamming plants too much or something. Overall though I really liked it :)
