I don't know if this is of any importance but I was looking up rituals and cultures that involve the 8 directions that the shrines follow, and many cultures have something in relation to it, things I've found are
- Native American Medicine Wheel
- Chinese Baqua (seen most often in Feng Shui)
- Celtic Seasons (and whoever built Stonehenge!)
- The Christian cross is seen by some as marking the cardinal directions
- Ancient Egyptian pyramids
And a couple others, seeing as VotV has many ritualistic themes, to include the ritual at the miniature Stonehenge, there may be some merit in one of these or another practice/culture.
