This game had some of the best art i've seen in this game jam. The only negative side is that when I died it gave me an heart attack.
Great job! Sprites and terrain are solid AF. Enjoyed the grid dropping to change terrain/mobs and the loot system.
Regarding monster types, I was unable to kill the orcs/ogres without taking damage since they have two life. A few times, 3 orcs appeared in a single map/level, which prevented progression (unless I am missing a game mechanic). Assuming this was intended, perhaps the Orcs could be stunned when attacked (skipping their next turn), but all other mobs move/attack as normal.
Lots of potential - could definitely be developed into a full roguelike game. Bravo for such good work in a short window!
This is very pretty and feels very complete. Perhaps a change in scenery every floor could add a little more to it and keeping a backup weapon (aside from the bow) you can use an action to swap for even more tactical layering would be just the nickpickiest ticket.
Really good and enjoyable Broguelike. Nice retro graphics, animations, and sound.
I recommend making the interactions simpler. For example, why separate inputs for melee and ranged targeting? Just let player select which weapon to use and then automatically target accordingly. Also, you should display the player's health in the UI.
So, just very minor tweaks to simplify the inputs and some UI.
I hate to pester, but I'd really appreciate some feedback for my entry.
This is fantastic!! The art is evocative of other beautiful games like Loop Hero, which is an accomplishment in a game jam. The gameplay is also super, super fun, as it's deep without being clunky. I played about six rounds, and though I didn't win them, I had to tear myself away because otherwise I'd be up all night playing. Great job to the team!!!
Woah the art is so crazy drawing all those sprites would have taken me the whole jam's length !
Thank you and it did! I was going sicko-mode until the very end of the jam with little sleep lol. Thankfully the art was my only responsibility and if I was responsible for anything else then this project just wouldn't exist, so @actual_fint (the programmer / brains of the operation) is to thank here. My head would explode just looking at gadot. We really appreciate you playing & giving feedback!
