Description
Made a sort of Industrial Metal-ish track, mostly because i just finished a playthrough of DMC 3 a day before the jam began and felt like doing something inspired a bit by the game.

The track itself i had a combat or boss battle in mind while writing it, but ended up being probably a bit too bombastic for just a basic battle scenario😅.

GEAR USED:
NI BUTCH VIG DRUMS for the drums + NI Drum Breaks for some background drum stuff at parts.

NI Nacht for most of the synth stuff

NI Utopia synth layered with an pipe organ for the chorus lead sound

XFER Serum for the little riser thing before the chorus sections

Vocal parts i sang myself, in my now 1+ year long quest to learn how to do vocal stuff 😁.

Amplesound Eclipse for the rhythm guitars

Cubase stock effects for mixing and mastering

Coffee

Message from the artist
Thanks for listening, and all feedback welcome!

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I kinda took the themes together as a person looking to "break free" in a way, and wrote the lyrics alluding to that and had a sort of puzzle/beat em up ala DMC game in mind for the actual game this might be in.

OHHH YAAAA Eetu Suikkanen makes a new banger!

Damn, I don't even know how to describe this song, lol. But I can definitely describe it as: "Robie Zombie became a more space guy"

Awesome work!

P.S. Rawr :>

I wish I could say I was familiar with DMC, but alas I don't need to in order to appreciate the absolute rockin vibe you've got with this OST! The vocals and lyrics really blend in great with the theme, and complement the track so extremely well. If I had to give any feedback, I think maybe it could be interesting to play with the volume/dynamics of your singing more throughout.

Developer

Yea, Will have to do that on a different jam. Still in the learning phase with singing.

Glad, youl liked it!

I looove your rock stuff!! Super nice organic writing, and a great amount of variety :D Never played DMC but looking at some of the material, I could see this in the game already. Gritty, energetic, and cinematic - I can feel a jump since last jam :)

Used to listen to a lot of different metal stuff growing up, so this type of stuff comes pretty naturally 😁

Been joking with a friend for a long time that if i just wrote tracks on autopilot they would be nothing but bVI-bVII-I, Circle progressions and sequences with some secondary dominants thrown in for flavor 😂(the chorus part is pretty much in that autopilot style). I've tried to write a bit different things/styles on jams to avoid getting too templatey if that's a word😅.

I can definitely hear the DMC 3 influence ahaha

Nice job with the vocals, and very cool overall sound to the track - the industrial-esque combination of instruments play really well together. Love the song structure and progression, nice work overall!

Haven't heard vocals in any submission yet so first of all congrats for pulling it off !
Speaking of the vocals, the vocal style works pretty well for the industrial style of the song, maybe I would have liked them to be a bit more intense in some parts of the song (not necessarily asking for a harsher singing style, but a bit more compression and saturation applied to the voice would do wonders in parts like at 2:05).
For the instrumentation it is very nicely arranged and is very energetic, it flows very well so good job on that (maybe the guitars could be a bit louder but that is more of my guitarist brain speaking than anything else).
Overall congratulations for your track !

Developer(+1)

Yea, the vocals could be sung with more power (need a bit more practice on that😁). I spent far too much time tweaking other stuff, so didn't manage to record proper takes to replace those initial sketch ones 😅.

Nice vocals!

I'm not really a fan of metal vocals in general but I must say you won me over here! I really like the melody and the song has a great, solid structure. Would be great in a game as a combat theme as you described, it has a fantastic energy to it! Great job!

Developer

The original plan was to make a couple ambient tracks to go together with this as non combat level music for the puzzles and what not, but only managed to get this track in somewhat OK shape by the end 😅

Glad you liked it!

Honestly I didn't expect anything with vocals among the submissions, but it sounds superb! You reminded me that bands like Ministry exist and I'm gonna have to revisit my playlists now. The track is awesome, it would fit amazingly in some Hack n slash game

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it!

First of all, the vocals are awesome. Then there’s the sound—it’s electric, heavy, and sharp. It feels like a dark day, but it’s still alert and full of energy. This is pure rock ’n’ roll. And that heavy metal vibe? Nailed it. Seriously impressive

Developer

🙏 Glad you liked it!

You nailed it to me, it's original, well executed, it illustrates your concept. Nothing bad to say, it works really :)

ough, that bridge after the second verse is GREAT, nicely composed and arranged! very awesome to hear you put yourself out there by making a song for this jam!! i do personally think this would still fit for a battle or boss; i point at The World Ends With You where you get a variety of song genres for battling HAHA ^-^

i think with how hard-hitting this track is, perhaps this is one of those cases where the drums could be brought forward more to be heard more intensely? but otherwise, i love the distinct quality of the chorus and how you approached vocal mixing! great work!!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, as a lot of people have mentioned the drums are a bit weak, I heard that too listening to this after the jam 😅 (probably made a lot of stuff sound worse with my last minute mix tweaks😂)

Probably going to try switching to more punchy samples if i cant make the ones I originally used punch through better with my poor production chops.

Glad you liked it!

drums aren't necessarily my best either, so don't worry HAHA i've tried waveshaping my drums recently which seems to spice it up , so you could experiment with that?

Developer(+1)

Never used waveshapers before, but have to give that a try.

Submitted(+1)

this is unique approach from what ive seen so far, awesome ! Good work :)

Your singing style is really cool!

I think you could bring out the rhythm guitars more, especially during the verses. Likewise, the snares are very quiet in the chorus and could give the chorus a lot more energy if they were louder. The synths were great! Nice work.

Developer

Yeah, lot of tweaking needed  😁

When i get to tweaking this again, will probably change the drum samples to different ones + the vocals could probably be recorded better since these are pretty rushed scratch takes 😅

Glad you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

I never know what to expect from you every single time and i'm still surprised XD. You're one of the few who actually puts lyrics in your track too, you're doing like a big Dany Elfman metal version song. Its goes everywhere but keeps us grounded. Super unique stuff, good job :)

Developer

Glad you liked it!

I usually try to do different stuff every jam since if I'm not trying out new things in a jam context, I just procrastinate and never actually manage to get anything done 😂,

Such a cool track and concept !

Production is very good, and good job on the lyrics and singing as well !

This would be perfect for a DMC fight indeed, well done !

Submitted(+1)

I like how some parts felt really cheerful in comparison to the rest of the song. Made the different sections feel nice and unique compared to one another.

This definitely isn't my style of music but I can tell that a lot of effort went into it!

Submitted(+1)

Had this playing before reading the description and my immediate thought was "This reeks of DMC". You nailed the vibe in that regard - the selection of instruments (both synthetic and live) makes for a nice eclectic mix, and I also have to say props on the mixing of the guitar; never overpowers the mix and sits in the back nicely, driving the rhythm. Kudos for doing some live vocals! A rarity in jams.

Great work as a whole, especially given the time-limit of this jam. Best of luck!

This is so awesome I love the lyrics, love the production!

Many thanks! 🙏

I'm showing this to my dad who loves Skinny Puppy. Banger.

Very fun track! I can see it as a boss theme for an action game, as you said.

Great work!
