Description
A soundtrack composed for a 2D platformer JRPG with visual novel elements.
Music was composed in FL Studio 2024/20
Song Specific Details:
_______________________________________________________
Track 1: 0mni - Get Me Outta Here.
Genre: Orchestral Waltz
Runtime: 2:20 (Loop 2:02)
Inspirations: The image prompt, while I was working on the 6/8 section, I was reminded of Lena Raine’s ‘Creator’ so I took a bit of extra inspiration from that
Process: Wanted to create an oppressive atmosphere, started with creating a leitmotif that we wanted to use in a majority of the songs. Chords were done after. Added metric modulation because I felt that the song couldn't be expanded upon in a meaningful way with how it was originally going.
_______________________________________________________
Track 2: 0mni - The Warden
Genre: Orchestral Waltz
Runtime: 0:54 (Loop 0:44)
Inspirations: “Get Me Outta Here.” and big guys in power in cartoons
Process: Started with taking the waltz from “Get Me Outta Here.” and with the help of verytrippy, we made the melody. This theme is supposed to be obnoxious
_______________________________________________________
Track 3: verytrippy - The Courtyard
Genre: Electronic Orchestral
Runtime: 1:39 (Loop 0:48)
Inspirations: After “Get Me Outta Here.” was complete I wanted to make something that sat in between 0mni’s and my style of music for a more consistent OST.
Process:
I started with trying to make an oppressive song with many dissonant chords as you are in a jail, while still including a sort of goofy side to the OST. I started with the leitmotif on the bass and it plays throughout half of the song in the bass. The halfway point (chorus) is meant to be a little hopeful, along with being styled like “Get Me Outta Here.” and “A Quirky Dealer”. Overall, the song sounds heroic and evil at the same as you aim to break out amongst mean prisoners. This theme also plays in the underground trade area so you are able to hear the machine sounds from all the prisoners creating illegal items when you are there.

Track 4: verytrippy - A Quirky Dealer
Genre: Web Fusion
Runtime: 1:38
Inspirations: Various shop themes from games, The legend of Zelda games, Undertale + Deltarune (Toby Fox). The artist “AQUASINE” inspired me to make the genre.
Process:
It’s meant to be a little out there from the other songs as it represents the Dealer (Shopkeeper). The Dealer is different from the other human prisoners, so is the main robot player character, they find friendship in being different and scheme to break out together.

Track 5: 0mni - Get Us Outta Here! (feat. verytrippy)
Genre: Symphonic Rock
Runtime: 2:14 (Loop 1:52)
Inspirations: “Get Me Outta Here.”, the idea of escaping jail with someone
Process: Decided the song should be in 7/8 to express the feeling of needing to rush. Chose to use an amen break as the secondary drum kit because it's the breakout song. Near finishing the song, trippy recorded their guitar.
_______________________________________________________
Track 6: 0mni & verytrippy - STOP WHERE YOU STAND!
Genre: Electronic Orchestral
Runtime: 2:34
Inspirations: The Warden’s Theme, All of the main inspirations
Process: verytrippy started with creating the chords, which was then sent to 0mni who created an orchestral base, this was then sent back to trippy to write melodies. After the melodies were done, it was sent back to 0mni for final touches, mixing and mastering.
The main melody contains The Warden’s theme repeatedly as you’re fighting him and then Truly escaping, (the characters both get caught just after escaping).
_______________________________________________________
Track 7: verytrippy - Transmission Control (Multiplayer Network Menu)
Genre: House
Runtime: 1:16 (Loop 0:36)
Inspirations: nuphory, Metaroom, Klaus Veen. Network menu themes in various games, Namely Access Connect from Under Night In-Birth and Mario Kart’s network menus.
Process: I wanted a bumpin’ theme to play on a network menu. The process was starting with a simple chord and replicating it everywhere like in most house songs. I still wanted to fit this into the full OST so I included guitars and an orchestra at some point to introduce more familiar sounds to the rest. I’d consider this a Bonus Song!

Theme

How does it fit the theme?
The OST represents the players journey and the interesting characters they meet along the way while searching for an escape from the prison they're kept in.

Incredible! This an extremely rare case (for this type of jam) of both quantity AND quality, which I could only assume is inevitable when you join 2 seemingly incredibly talented musicians for a project!
Get Me Outta Here - Mixed meter? On the FIRST TRACK? Already setting up expectations for such a great OST.
The Warden - Kind of reminds me of Groose's theme from Zelda Skyward Sword in its quirkiness. Very nice!
The Courtyard - Might be my favorite track! An absolute jam, with some banging production and effects to go with it (the blacksmith-type-noises in the background are a great touch). Really inspiring for me to do more electronic stuff haha!
A Quirky Dealer - Another great in the long-standing line of wonderfully quirky shop themes - well done!
Get Us Outta Here - You're so lucky I've been really getting into 7/8 lately (just kidding, I would've loved this either way)! So incredibly epic and energizing, it feels me with adrenaline. Also love the sound design here - the crescendoing D&B drums and the alarms in the background - great stuff!
STOP WHERE YOU STAND - MORE MIXED METER? You gotta be kidding me! Another amazingly adrenaline-pumping track.
Transmission Control - Also might be my favorite track - this is just straight up fire injected into my veins. So banging it might tear my ear off. Very glad you decided to include it in the OST!
Overall - great story, great music, great production - congratulations! You got my undivided attention.
Best of luck on this jam! You absolutely deserve it!
Great stuff of creativity here! Both tone color and a rhythm design ware freshly made. Good job.
Full OST right here, in terms of length and quality! The tracks are all fun to listen to and are very cohesive even though two people worked on it, which is a feat in and of itself, congrats!
Super cool to read your inspirations and then be able to also listen and identify them!
My favorites were: 'The Courtyard', LOVED the sound design and the track reminded me of some Wario's music, super quirky and fun; and 'Get Us Outta Here!', which to me really sold the idea of escaping from somewhere, the sense of urgency from the drums and hopeful melody was really cool!
Great work!
Really nice one ! Each track is very pleasant to listen to, it made me think of Undertale, of Sonic, of arcade action games... It's nice to have a recurring theme as well ! Really enjoyed this trip that has a lot of flavors :D
i LOVE sonic and undertale like way too much both LMAO so yeah probably sneaks into my music especially A LOT
Great stuff, this might be my favourite so far.
Took me for a real waltz with this one, a bit of an "Entrance of the Gladiators" vibe persists, but not overpoweringly. It's a spectacle. Great work!
Great work! Really enjoyed the synth sounds, how things went together, the songs had great pacing. Great work!
I'm absolutely amazed that you could make so much tracks in only two days, and tracks of this quality especially !
I love the two differents style you have, thay really blend well together and still makes a coherent soundtrack.
I think my favorite is Get me Outta Here, I love that creepy waltz vibe, reminded me of Don't Starve OST at some point.
But I also love A quirky Dealer, very groovy and goofy in a good way :D
Amazing job, great musical journey, very inspiring !
This whole project is giving me "Tanger - Prefer Not To Say" vibes with the direction that you took with the projects. I'd say it's a very fun composition to listen to overall <3
Wonderful contribution. I loved how well all the songs integrated, even with the difference in genre. It's solid overall. Congrats!
Very impressive submission damn, how is this possible in 2 days ?
Lots of variety in different styles and instrumentations that somehow manages to fit together, all very well mixed and engaging to listen through, congrats for your work !
All tracks were very solid, I think I've liked A Quirky Dealer and Get Us Outta Here the most amongst the others (they sticked in my mind a bit more after finishing the album).
A lot going on here, as there's two people on this one - but the result is a solid OST with nice variety. People have been doing well with the network, save, and shop theme for this jam! Good job.
The title track sets the stage perfectly, really cool vibe from the start. "The Courtyard" really pops out, love that melody right off the bat. Feels very Sonic 2-esque in instrumentation.
"A Quirky Dealer" ups the ante again, really loving how smooth and boppy this is! "Get Me Outta Here" gave me "You Say Run" (My Hero Academia) vibes right off the bat, love the energy on this one.
As this soundtrack plays out, it feels like every single song ups the previous. Great job with keeping the theming, sound and feel of the soundtrack cohesive and consistent throughout. The combination of strings and traditional instruments with synths works perfectly. Excellent work!
HOLY SHIT THIS IS AMAZING!
I love how cartoonishly evil warden sounds, and i also love how groovy transmission control is.
Loved the variety, Hope this wins :)
Damn, there is a lot of variety in this. As others have noted, the production is incredibly well done and the sheer amount of different vibes that are present here is fantastic. From quirkier pieces to straight up groovers, I think this has a track for almost any kind of level in a game. Squeezing this out in 48 hours is genuinely phenomenal work.
I'm struggling to pick a favorite track. The funky roots in The Courtyard had me really feeling it - cheeky leads and some really nice syncopation. The leads and flourishes in A Quirky Dealer leant even heavier into said groove and the bass does some heavy lifting here along with the slight pitch drops/tape stops. Wonderfully spaced out and gated vibe to this one.
I'm normally a big fan of breakcore and so it goes without saying that the self-titled Get Us Outta Here appeals to that love of mine; great breakbeats, super nice leads overlaid atop and just the right amount of flourish to keep it driving forward and interesting.
However, I think I have to go with Transmission Control for my favorite - it's got so much groove to it, and the patches and voicings in this are disgustingly good. Great vibes and tight synth-work. The lower end does a fantastic job of driving this forward and letting the upper-end go crazy and do it's own thing. I feel like I can envision this track in a myriad of games, in all honesty.
Fantastic work across the board, I think this might be a contender to win the entire jam outright.
Hell yeah! i loved seeing your criticism on LOTS of other tracks and man, really showering us in the compliments here haha!
Credit where credit is due, this is some genuinely fantastic work!
I don’t know what to say more than : “It’s absolutely perfect”. Everything is masterfully produced. So many ideas, techniques, ambiances… Outstanding in every way.
This is fantastic, there's a great variety of stuff here, I can't believe you both managed to make all this in just a weekend! All the songs have this amazing, almost manic, energy that really works for your game idea. I absolutely love Get Us Outta Here!, especially the guitar part, and obviously the breakbeat sounds great. My favourite track is probably Transmission Control though, will probably be listening to some more house music now after this!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I really recommended nuphory for some really cool house music!
ah... this is chef's kiss... this entire soundtrack reminds me of some very good quirky indie games that i've gotten a chance to play! UNDERTALE, Great God Grove, Everhood... all very good entries! :3c
i think it's fascinating to ponder the cohesiveness of y'all's soundtrack — the diversity of genres and production approaches is so wide that the videogame would mirror the experimental nature of the soundtrack (in which each track could potentially stand alone in their own individual concepts). it's very much a "to each their own" sort of thought; i think this soundtrack would work quite well in an indie setting!
stellar job, you two! i expect y'all's names to appear in videogame credits in the future, hopefully. >:~)
AWWW this is so nice to hear :D
That last part got me and 0mni really smiling over here :DDDDD
Okay, first of all - wow. This is basically some ready-for-publishing ost. Mixing is perfect everywhere. Instruments and the choice of sounds is also very high level.
"Get Us Outta here" gave me a smile (a fellow siren/breakcore track).
"STOP WHERE YOU STAND!"'s melody feels like the Warden is scolding them, hahaha.
"A Quirky Dealer" and "Transmission Control" are my favourite. So groovy and engaging! I love the sound/silence dynamic in each one of them.
Fantastic submission!
You have a lot of tracks so I can't go one by one, but I really love the 90s Euro EDM vibes. Very cool and I'm a big fan of that. Very cool that you were able to finish so many! You have enough here for a full game. All the synth solos and funk basslines were really fun to see too. Killed it!
