Interesting approach to crawling and shooting :)

Atmosphere is super nice, all these whispers “name’s Hard Boiled”, all these lines of the character when he’s approaching some parts of the level are really nice.

In some portions of the game I felt a bit surrounded because in order to shoot you need to quickly move your mouse and you cannot turn in the approximate direction you want to face before you hold RMB.

Other than that it feels like a nice little game with funny characters, voice acting and generally feels quite polished, good job!

Here’s my play-through:

I had some trouble getting this one running, but I'm glad I finally did because it was a good one.  It does a lot of the stuff I wanted to (and did not) do with my game.

The art style, writing and voice acting all worked perfectly to set the self-aware noir tone.
The auto-cover worked well.  The aiming was sometimes a little tricky to be quick on, but it did lend more tension to the encounters, and I got through in the end, so all good.  Though I did cheese a few guys by sniping them.
(The sound and feel of the actual shooting felt great too.)

All in all, terrific entry!

Here's my playthrough.  For various reasons it's a little stapled together.

Reasons:  I started out recording at a smaller size by zooming out of the web page, which made the UI clearer, but made the aiming very slow and awkward since I kept Left and Right Clicking out of the game.

On my second record, I skipped the intro, so that needed to be rerecorded, and cuz I didn't notice I could use F to open doors until the very end, I had a bit of a farewell tour thinking I had to find more eggs to end the game.  which I sped up.

I only add this context since there are a few jump cuts, and I start the game with a bit of confidence going into the first building.

The art style, the noir theme and the voices were really great in game, made it very fun to play and the combat worked quite well. I enjoyed the shooting, however it would be better if enemies could move a little.

This was a very good game entry that I was happy to play and would play even more of it if it was a larger game. I feel like it could be a bigger game. Great work with it , definitely one the top ones i played so far in this jam.

I was initially worried about how cover mechanics would interact with dungeon crawling, but you managed to pull it off quite well. This was very funny and fun.

Big plusses for the style, the noir setting, the detective voicelines and the idea of having gunplay.

But for me at least, killing enemies was nigh impossible. Very hard to aim (maybe that was by design) and the whole game ran rather choppily. I did manage to see a lot of the game though, by starting over several times and going for different routes, but the actual fighting made it very hard for me unfortunately :(

I love graphic style and setup. they are really organic, Thank you. Movements are a bit wierd and for some reason game didn't catch mouse, so I had two cursors and wasn't easy to target.

Really funny story! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the Dungeon Crawler Jam.

Really enjoyed this game! The first person shooting is great and makes the game feel action-packed which is hard for a dungeon crawler. The story, voice acting and music all fit well together and were well done. Great work!

Fantastic noir take on dungeon crawling. I love the style, the writing and voice acting. Having revolver action like that was also very cool. Animations perfect. It was however too hard for me. I tried two times and I got a bit further the second time, and I might have even tried a third but not being able to hold forward pressed sort of tipped the balance. It would have been awesome if there was some sort of difficulty setting, perhaps not to give me more health, but to increase the enemy reaction speeds.

The main menu could do with a little love too if you do a post jam update so the style matches the rest of your otherwise overly stylish game!

Great job.

All completely fair feedback points!
Loved seeing your video play through.. we wanted to add destructible props so badly!

Another note that I wish we were more clear on, collecting eggs fully restores your health.

The time crunch is the most hard part :)
Thanks for playing!

yeah something to draw focus to the health-bar, if it flashed and then animated itself up or such thing would have been good to signal that.

That was a lot of fun!

Interesting graphical style combined with an very interesting free aim mouse combat.

Shooting through open doors does not (always?) seem to work though and the movement could be better but that does not stopped me from having a ton of fun.

Definitely exceeds my expectation for a 9 day jam game.

Well done!

Wow, absolutely love the atmosphere! The music is top-notch, the narrating is hilarious the movement feels very smooth and I absolutely love the free-aim combat and auto-ducking mechanic. - I was thinking of doing the same for our game. Nice to see someone did it and it feels quite nice! -

I didn’t finished as I was wanked by three dudes while peeking around a corner. That was a little hard to peek around a corner and wank them. But overall a really nice game!

I dusted 16 bad guys and recovered 12 wayward eggs.

The game was super fun! I love the black & white cartoony style and the music, sounds and dialogs and their voices all perfectly fit. The death sequence is awesome. The gunplay is super satisfying and the hiding and jumping enhance the punchiness of the game, it's very lively. Finally the difficulty is pretty much perfect for me in the context, a great point for my taste.

Movement is fine yet slightly more rigid than I prefer. Also can't the protagonists shoot through open doors? Sometimes I got confused when my opponent and I could shoot at each other with no effect and while typing I wonder if that's the reason.

Very cool!

Nice but short game!

I think you nailed the narrative and story.

The graphics looks great and the shooting works well. However I would really have the movement be a bit snappier and more consistent. There is so much precision needed to shoot well and fast so you shouldn't have to fight the movement. The furniture and crates in the game is nice, but sometimes you just walk into them or on top of them which makes it feel a bit awkward and not adjusted to the grid entirely.

Anyway, I had real fun playing the game!

Good Job!

Nice quick little entry. I liked the music and the intro scene, definitely made it feel like an old timey detective story. The graphics looks are good and color scheme to match the noir theme. Heavy on the chicken puns which were entertaining. Movement was felt good, but could be a bit quicker with holding down W or queued movement. I enjoyed the shooting mechanics, while a bit basic were fun for the experience and a good change from standard crawler combat.

A few minor things, it seems shots weren't registering if you were in the tunnel and sometimes a bit of camera clipping through the ceiling if hopping over something in said tunnel. The eggs could probably use something more to stand out.. No real complaints otherwise.

Good job!

Good one! The atmosphere thanks to art, music, sound and voice acting was really convincing! Everything comes together perfectly well.

Special greetings to your artist p0ir000t ! So happy they else also took the challenge to create a hand-drawn enviornment. And it is so well accomplished 🏆

Hey! Awesome game! I loved how silly it is, you always see a cat or a dog detective, never a chicken! And the scruffy voices mixed with the high pitched chicken sounds rock. The sounds and music are nice and fitting and the options for them are fantastic. The only issue I have with it is that you should be able to hold down buttons to move, and that the swap from moving to gun mode is a little awkward. Overall, great project!

Thanks so much for playing!
We agree that the movement could be improved, so your feedback is definitely warranted.

Will check out your submission sometime soon :)
