I sometimes use the video game creation as a cathartic mechanism. To express something hidden inside my soul in an artistic way. Sometimes little things, other universal feelings.

You’ve made a really emotive artistic piece. A mix of story, feelings and game. It´s very well done. It´s not totally pulished (in a 3h jam is awesome!!), but it´s authentic in its message. Despite all the pain, is a hopeful message. The game is not about not being able of saving somone. Is not totally about building up a courage cell. Is about realizing you are not guilty. It was not your fault.

You can make both funny games with a lot of clever mechanics and also emotional introspective games with a lot of quality… And all started with a table :P!! Soon you will be a Trijam winner (you are already one for me, actually). Very proud of you ^^

PS. I could’t play before the game. Monday was the blackout in Spain, and Tuesday and yesterday I had a LOT of work…

Thanks for playing—actually, thanks for inspiring me to make this game.
In my first game jam-Trijam #313, your game deeply influenced two of my recent games—Trijam #317 and #319. Since your game conversed the dialogue and emotions perfectly along with the visuals, I tried to mimic the effects on my dialogue based games. These games can only be made because of you. Thank you very much. In my personal ratings, you are #1 three times from the five jams i fully rated in(and 5 stars for all ur games), hehe. Hopefully you can return soon and win this jam.

Thanks again!

Oh, wow, I am speechless ^^! I appreciate your kind words… You have a lot of potential, you demonstrate it with every game you make. I think you will soon win a lot of Trijams (you are now in the top 5 most of times, hehe). I will return on July, because I like a lot participating in Trijams (but for me it takes a lot of time, especially playing and commenting the games…).

i was blown away by the creativity and the thought behind this game.
Coming from a true event gives this game an emotional touch.

Thank you for your genuine comments.

During the development time, I mainly just dumped all my thoughts at once, to truly create the game from my perspective during the event. I am glad you liked the ideas.

Thank you again. I am happy my message has reached you.

I was really speechless after finishing the game, you did an absolute great job and the feeling put behind it was really pure. I am sincerely sorry for your loss and I hope you and everyone from the server will recover from it.
Now in point of view of pure feedback towards the game itself, I think you managed really well the balance between gameplay and narration, making us play the fighting against the fear and the building up of the courage cell is simple but really effective!
Thank you for this and I wish you the best in life!

Thank you for your genuine comments.

Currently, I am still contacting some of the closer friends with him, and trying to make them feel better a little bit.  I posted this game on the server aswell--hopefully I can express my messages to as many people as possible. In addition, this game is just for expressing my emotions. I feel like doing what I love helps me move on from the loss.

Gameplay wise I was worried about my lack of balance between text and actual gameplay, in which I am not sure if everyone will like; however, I am glad you liked the balance.

Thanks so much. I wish you the best in life aswell.

Wow. Just wow. Real life and real feelings expressed and shared through a game. You're a brave person for opening up about this to this community and I applaud you for bringing something truly meaningful to an environment that is normally about fun and silliness. Thank you for sharing.

Developer

Thank you so much for the supportive comments. I am glad I could express my emotions and my messages.

This game is more like one of my emotional expressions once in a while. I hope I could bring more emotional games later, without the goal of winning this jam. I will return with a silly game a week later--I think I already have the idea for the next week's game.

No need to thank me for sharing--thank you for playing.

I had to step away from my pc after playing this and take 10 minutes to think about how I felt.

To keep the technical critique brief, as it feels borderline poor taste for me to do so given the game's subject matter, you did everything brilliantly - the text effects (visual & audio) worked super well and the gameplay itself was simple but very effective.

Regarding the topic of the game, all I can do is wish yourself & your server's community well and hope that Freckle's passing isn't something that weighs on you too heavily. It might be unwanted coming from a virtual stranger, but I hope you yourself are well and have support in your personal life to properly process and deal with this.

It's a powerful topic you've tackled here and you've done it well in my opinion.

First up, thanks so much for playing and writing this review. I am happy that my message had reached you.

For the technical critiques, I really don't mind if I am getting any critical reviews, since i will probably update the game after the jam. However, I appreciate you acknowledging the game's subject matter and not focusing your reviews on technical critiques aswell.

About the topic of this game...

Thank you so much. I just want to say: your comments are not at all unwanted. In fact, the server is full of virtual strangers--from random invites sent by a bot. In just a month period, however, the server established close friends. After the event, I saw many people--whom I know or I do not know--to give helpful comments. When the event happened, I was barely a little bit more than a virtual stranger with Freckles, in which we knew each other, but  we are not really close friends. I hesitated to speak to him because I was not close friends with him; therefore, after the call, I felt guilt since many of the people in the server is close friends with him, who i failed to save. Don't worry too much about me, as I made this game for the others troubled.

Thank you so much. I wish you the best.

Totally not what i was expecting after the intro, nice twist and good work using Unity never easy in a short time frame. Got hectic pretty quickly. The only thing I would add is to speed up intro key. Good work.

Developer

Thanks for playing:)

What i was planning into the jam was about 50% text, and the two game scenes(With literally the same gameplay) taking up 50% of the time.

However... I could not find a way to balance these so the text part took up about 70% of the game. Speeding up the typing could really help.

Thanks again for your feedback!

This is a super cool piece you made. it reminds me of the games Korgen was making, and i have been pretty inspired to try a more emotionally driven game as of recent. Specifically, it has an element of being more of an art piece than a super game-y game, which is something i really haven't seen a lot.

The actual gameplay portion of it stood out to me, where it started off with a few stragglers, then everything all at once, in an unstoppable barrage of fear, in a way that maybe a few extra set of hands might be able to stop. it really conveys emotions and trauma SO well.

thanks so much for playing and writing such a detailed review.

Aesthetics for this game was actually inspired by Korgen’s games, in which his visuals created such an amazing atmosphere.

However, I probably will not do emotion driven games very much, and hopefully focus on the art and visual part. In that area of development, your games are amazing. Even though I could not replicate the amazing art, I could try to implement more visual and sound effects.

Thanks again!

I am really impressed with how much is in the game. The amount of text alone was impressive and then on top of that there was the gameplay which was also quite enjoyable. Great game/experience.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing:)

During my development time, for the text parts I just spoke what i thought at that time and after, so the text part really didn't take much time. In addition, I had a typing text template scene set up early in my development times so I can use it to write more texts.  Hopefully I created a fitting atmosphere for my story.

Thanks again!

Hi. Please play the entire game.  This is not for a “fun game” but rather a game to convey a message.

Some questions I am answering on the spot:

1: what exactly is this event?

-To put it short, suicide. Be aware. It is a little bit distressing at the start. However, I wish you can play it. For I want to tell a message, also to remember a person with this game.

2: what is this game about?

-This game is about freckles, the owner of a discord chatting server I am in, who died in April 26th. I figured that I should make a game remembering him, who brought a community together. The first playable scene(where the player cannot win) is my feelings 5 minutes before freckles committed… I was in voice call, and hesitated to call emergency. When I called the authorities, it is all too late. The second scene is for the player themselves, as the player tries to construct a “courage cell” to care about others more.

3: how does my game fit the theme?

-The player constructs their “courage cell”, to try to speak and care about people in struggles.

I love you all.
