Really cool premise, but I think the enemies spawning might be messed up or something. After a little while I was just wandering around trying to find enemies but just seeing the same three over and over again.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! And you might be winning the RNG, lol. The way I have enemy spawning set up is the next number has a 50% chance to be the negative of the current sum, meaning if you have 3 = 3, the next number has a chance to either be random or -3 to make it 0. This was to make it easier, but I guess I can tweak the chance a lil bit.

Submitted(+1)

I meant it was literally the same three different numbers, as in no new ones were spawning and the numbers I had could not equal a sum of 0. Sorry if I wasn't clear before.

Developer

Hmm. You mention 'same' and 'different' in the same sentence. I'm sorry, I still don't quite get it.

Submitted

The only numbers were 12, -14, and 4 I believe, and there was only one of each. The numbers did not despawn, so no matter where I went I would eventually run into them again. No other numbers ever showed up.

Developer

Oof, that's... something. Did it just happen? Did you select (shoot) those numbers? I'll work on it, thanks for telling me this.

Submitted (2 edits) (+1)

I believe I shot the numbers, but I'm not 100% certain.

Edit: I got it to happen again, this time there were only two numbers, 4 and 16. Right before I was left with just those two I saw some other numbers spawn in but they were all moving away from me. Maybe something's happening to the pathfinding?

Developer(+1)

I believe the issue might be in my repellent logic. Though while I know the issue I'm not sure of the underlying cause. The way I set it up is it takes all neighboring enemies in a 100px radius and generates a small push force away from all neighbors. I'll find it, thank you.

Submitted(+1)

Glad to have been of some assistance.

Developer(+1)

Much appreciated.

Submitted(+1)

Bro this is so innovative man :))))) Last One Standing? Who would have thought of that! I really enjoyed the game, although I can barely survive for long. I also appreciate the vfx on this game (is it vhs effect? I don't really know XD). Anyways, great game man, and I hope you keep up the good work on upcoming games too!

Developer(+1)

Cheers, dude, and thank you for playing my game! My first idea was a small arcade shooter game but shortly after I wanted to actually be able to move dynamically. There also came the ideas of "zombie apocalypse" and "lone survivor" and so Last One Standing was born! The effect is a CRT shader if you want to play around with that.

Submitted(+1)

That was some intense math!!! xD  Was fun and a cool use of the theme -awesome work! :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing!

Nice One hehheh. Good idea with shooting enemies with the right operation, I like the horror-ish feel to it too. I felt like there are opportunities to implement upgrades but maybe that would have made the game more complex ahhaha I didn't feel very motivated to seek out enemies at the start though, perhaps the enemies could appear sooner in the game?

Developer(+1)

I had originally planned on upgrades, but I didn't really have much time. I have an empty "powerups" folder in the game files, lol. Maybe I'll add them after the jam; I still want to somewhat keep the base feel of the game that was there with the original submission.

For the enemy thing, that's quite odd. The way I set up enemy AI is that they just spawn every 1-3 seconds and immediately chase the player (with some minor tweaks to avoid overcrowding) though. There shouldn't be any issues with having to find enemies since they'll look for you. If possible, can you provide more details? Also, thank you for playing my game!

Submitted

Ah yea I guess what I mean to say is upon starting a new game if I stay still no enemy enter my field of vision for maybe 6 seconds and I don't feel motivated to seek them out, but thinking about it now it's more natural to move around haha

Developer(+1)

Oh! That must be because of my spawning logic; it it essentially screen size + random distance from 50 to 100 pixels, I believe. Relative to the player, of course. I'll push an update tomorrow.

Submitted(+1)

Last One, heh I see what you did there. The eerie music and CRT aesthetic adds to the experience. I like the idea of shooting enemies to form an equation, but I feel the enemies move a little too fast at times that I don't get a chance to actually seek out other numbers.

Developer

Fast enemies? That's not intentional... well, at least not quite. For enemies with higher numbers I add a small multiplier to their speed (ex. 20 = +2% or 1.02x). Is their speed that bad?

Submitted(+1)

The music and the ambience gives it a neat touch!

I would like to have more than one hit to die, but at least I did some equations haha

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I was keen on having the ambience be like a dystopian world or similar, and the CRT shader also added a really nice effect.

I gave the player only one health because, well... they are the number One. But I should have make that clear; that's on me! Maybe in a post-jam update.

Submitted(+1)

Neat game! I like the concept and the graphics and music are really good. I found it a  little difficult mostly because I felt like there wasn't many enemies I could match up easily. Also there is a minor bug where the game saves the enemies you shot last game into the next if you die before you confirm. Altogether, awesome job!!

Developer

Oof, yeah, the selected enemies were brought over to the next game. This is very likely because I commented out one line of code... I'll be fixing that! Thank you for playing my game! Yours was pretty fun as well; great puzzles!

Submitted(+1)

The atmosphere in this game is sublime, the art and post effects also work so well together.

The game mechanics are very interesting and easy to pick up and play. I just found it a bit difficult to succeed with the limited time I’ve played this game as I felt there was a bit too much I had to focus on at once, I have dumb brain. But I really enjoyed this game, I can see this being an interesting twist to the general Vamp Survivor genre with some more modifications and additions.

Developer

Sweet, thanks! I set the enemy spawn interval as 2 at first that gradually went lower and lower so they spawn faster over time. I was thinking the game would seem pretty slow if I didn't do so. You also mentioned modifications—do you have any ideas in mind? I'm glad to be taking any suggestions!

really cool game, like to play it, music good fit - real feel like you is last standing😁, good idea and realization

little shortcomings:

- little bugging when lean on the objects(tree and fences),

- for some reason score and up line(where calculating the numbers) don't reset when lose and start again🤔

btw it was little hard to get used to the control of change math sign(on "e"/"q" key), maybe if it was on RightMousClick it was more understandable. But if it was made specially - for make game harder, than ok - it good perform its function😅

Good job was done😃👍 happy for you, it's so good that Jam have late submission function😊

Submitted

forgot to add that cool visual style - like old TV or some old game console😃👍

Developer

Thank you! And I'll be pushing a fix to resetting selected numbers in a while. I'll also take into consideration your RCLICK idea; that's neat! The objects were mainly for navigation so you knew that you were actually moving on the map, but I had some plans for that that I couldn't properly implement.

Submitted(+1)

Oh "for navigation", make sense, I even didn't think about that😁

Developer(+1)

Fixed the selected numbers bug and added the Right Click for swapping operations! And yeah, it would be pretty confusing if you see the move animation but there was nothing to indicate it, lol. Thank you once again!

Submitted

Really like the concept!  Kinda hard to hit the numbers you want when they're grouped up though.

But still, really amazing game!

Developer

Thank you for playing my game! Speaking of the difficulty, lol, I forgot to export the latest build. I will probably do so tomorrow; in it I basically added repulsion to avoid enemy clumping. Once again, thank you for playing! I appreciate it.

Submitted(+1)

I liked the concept. But I found it very hard to hit the right numbers. Maybe instead of shooting the second number you could select the with the mouse?

Developer

Yeah, shooting the right number when there's a mob chasing at you is very much difficult. Will try to make it easier! Thank you for playing.

Submitted(+1)

Love the concept so far!! Kinda hard on the first try tho. but getting easier once you get used to it

Developer

Thanks! And indeed; the game is quite hard.

Submitted(+1)

Nice work!

I really like the retro art style.

The bullets feel fun to shoot, and the equations nice to solve.

I find working with two digit numbers to be quite cumbersome, but maybe that could be solved with just showing the result like the commenter before me suggested.

And maybe this is intentional, but during the main menu, after having played the game, the mouse goes invisible?

Nice game though, 7/10

Developer

Thank you! I started quite late on development (less than a day remaining) so there was bound to be some problems. Nevertheless I'm proud of what I made. Anyway, the issue with the mouse isn't intentional. I've since known the cause and pushed it aside for later, but now is later. I'll be fixing that!

The concept is really cool but I do think this can be balanced better. Having to work with 2 digit numbers just makes everything harder. It'll also be a nice quality of life feature if the result was shown instead of hidden, so I knew which numbers I should aim for instead of having to do mental math. Also since we're working with 4 colours, I think it'll be cool if the ones you subtracted glew red instead of green.

Developer(+1)

Do agree. I had little to no time to playtest on top of submitting late so the difficulty was quite unbalanced. I will take into account your suggestions—they are cool ideas! Thank you for playing my game.
