I was really impressed by this entry, the art is amazing, the dungeon layouts are great, the combat feels nice and juicy for an RPGMaker game, and there's even some neat puzzles!

As mentioned the visuals are very well done, and makes the game feel nice and oddly cozy. Though the fireball enemy sprites are fittingly threatening in combat (which was a cool twist imo).

The boulder moving puzzles were interesting, was more environmental interaction than I expected which was cool.

The verticality in the dungeons was something I definitely didn't expect but really loved! Made the levels much more interesting while having a fairly small pallette of world textures compared to some other entries. And just generally navigating the levels wasn't too confusing, the minimap certainly helped but it didn't feel like a crutch.

Having experience gained only by collecting chickens was an interesting change of pace that I liked. Reduced the need to grind, but I will come back to the combat. And I especially loved the detail of the one chicken spinning in place so much it dug a ditch on its tile lol.

There's some good quality of life features in this entry I appreciated. Like the unlimited use teleport potion, and the ability to teleport to individual floors. The boulder reset signs were also used multiple times in my playthrough, and the hint signs were useful.

Regarding the combat, I think the actual battles felt good, though the number of random encounters was too much. It was especially noticeable when trying to complete the boulder puzzles. I don't think the random encounters should be removed, but I think should be reduced. And I don't know if it's just because there were so many battles, but as time went on I wished the attack animations could be skipped or sped up.

I don't know if it's an issue with me or the game, but I was definitely overlevelled by the time I started fighting the fireball enemies. The first time I fought one I didn't get to attack with all my characters because I killed it too quickly. Of course, I did go and buy the high end weapons by this point, so maybe I was just overcautious. But from that moment forward those enemies just became mobile piggy banks. And this extended to the boss fight, whom I beat with barely a scratch. To be honest though, I'd prefer a game like this be too easy over being too hard.

Oh and speaking of buying equipment, some of the items didn't have any stat bonuses listed in the store, like the armour and shields. I never bothered buying them because I assumed that meant they were bugged or worse than my current equipment.

Back to the positives, the sense of humour is solid too. That ending with the recipe reveal was hilarious!

Overall this was one of my favourite entries, great work!

Oh wow thanks for such a detailed review! Yeah I run out of time to timker with the combat and economy, so it definitely has lots of janks and bugs. You can speed up the combat by holding Space though!

I'm planning a post jam update to address those issues!

Good game, it is a nice rpg maker game to play. Combat worked well and felt balanced but random battles got too much. Character art is good, they look nice. The level design is also quite good but the level art too repetitive, it all feel same and it felt weird having green for flood, walls and ceilings.

Good work with the game overall

Developer

Thanks for the review! I also want to spice up the level art but the plugin I used for the minimap actually reflects what is on the map as is, so too many decorations would clutter it. Maybe for a post jam update...

Oh that make sense, yeah i can see why now if that how plugin works . Being too cluttered would be confusing

Pretty fun level design.  Actually, the battles got to be a bit of a pain while I was trying to beat the block-sliding puzzles.  And the ending was pretty funny too.

Thanks for the review and the video! And sorry about the random encounters, that's common complaint haha. I'm planning to do an update post-jam.

Part 2 is up.
The audio dropped for some reason.

Hey thanks for playing until the end!

I really enjoyed this entry! The pacing, graphics/art, combat and everything was all around great. I liked the rock puzzles too. There was a good bit of content and the twist at the end was pretty funny.

No complaints really, I think some of the shields weren't equitable by anyone and the items you can't see if they increase stats or just armor (might be an engine limitation). Encounter rate might be a bit high, I got to the point I was just holding space bar to spam through encounters.

I like RPG maker and the 3d plugin, it works well. I plan to give it a go some day!

Good job, I recorded my play here

Developer

Hey thanks for recording your playthrough, glad you enjoyed it!

I love the art! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the Dungeon Crawler Jam.

Very cozy vibe to this game. Loved the graphics, loved the environmental puzzles and the humor. The movement and exploration was also spot on. I am not a fan of jrpg style combat though and especially not of random encounters and I think the latter really weighed the game down and detracted from the awesome exploration/puzzle solving aspect. With a different combat system this game could really be a gem.

Developer

Thank you for the review! In hindsight maybe I should've disabled the random encounters haha. Glad to hear the vibe is already spot on, though!

This is great game with solid gameplay. rpg maker does it best of environment handling, I understand that there wasn't enough time to make a battle experience but art style is really good.

Developer

Thanks for the review! Yes, I have been waiting to use this asset pack for so long!

Fun concept, I really liked the verticality of the levels.

Thanks you! Glad you enjoyed it!

A solid entry! I really enjoyed the Sokoban style puzzles with the boulders. I wish there were more of them in place of the encounters which I felt were a little boring and repetitive. I wish I felt more attached to the characters and their skills/abilities.

If you would like to rewatch my playthrough, you can find it here: https://youtu.be/hHr9D2aedfs?si=KYpdwooqaYAAqXV1&t=11220

Out of curiosity, what engine was this made with?

Developer

Thank you for recording this game! Watching it makes me understand more about the pacing. The battles are that bad huh lol.

Yeah so basically I was having too much fun designing the maps and puzzles that I ran out of time balancing combat haha. After the jam I'm definitely update the game.

And yes, it does use RPG Maker.

Hey! Awesome game! I loved the visuals especially, simple yet pleasing art all around, cohesive and cartoony. The puzzle solving and the actual dungeon crawler bits feel awesome, I like the movement, though the combat seems a bit random with all the creatures I start with. They look very cool, and maybe I skipped an intro or something, but I’m not too sure on who they are haha. Overall, great project!!

Developer

Thank you for the review! Yeah, I definitely skimped on intro and combat. Having too much fun designing the levels, haha!

I successfully brought the recipe to the Porker Brother.

The game is cool. The different parts all look nice and feel consistent, the movement and perspective are perfect and I enjoyed playing the game, the pacing is good with the puzzles and fast combat.

Graphics are nice! Feels like its a good polish. The repeating combat events are a bit annoying after a while and makes it hard to focus on the dungeon crawler part and puzzle solving. Maybe an option to make the fight speed up with to make it more enjoyable.

Developer

Thanks for playing! So the encounter rate is a bit too high for a puzzle-focused game, eh? I'll keep this and your suggestion to speed up the game in mind.
